View Full Version : Using FG - two users, same computer

My husband and I share an Ultimate account (which is permissible in the EULA) as we run two games, each of us GM's one. We are hoping to find a workaround for constantly having to change license info when we switch GM's. I tried creating a new user login on my computer so that I could leave one user login with the FG Ultimate license and use the second for when I am the player, but the FG updater doesn't like it. I initially tried to launch FG from the application menu for the Player Only user, but received an error message on the updater that FG couldn't access the data folder. So I reinstalled FG on that user login and it worked there, but when I switched back over to my regular login and launched FG I received the same error message about permissions. I hope this is understandable. Basically my computer has two user logins now with one installed version of FG, but within the user login the FG data path is set to the folder for that user (so there are two data folders for FG data now).

Has anyone been successful running FG from two different user logins on the same computer? Or does anyone out there have a manageable way to share the account without changing license numbers?

FYI, running FG Unity on a 2020 iMac.

Thanks!

Hey Allison, if you used the default install locations (which is fine), you will need to go to the application folder and teh data folder and give the other user permission to them (and all sub folders/items).

Another option is to install and set the data folder to a location that both of you already have (or can setup) full control over. Maybe something like c:\FGU\app & c:\FGU\data.

Many, many thanks! That did the trick on the Mac. Now to repeat the process on Hubby's Window machine :)

What about making a batch file that wipes out the KEY and runs an update, and another that re-enters the Key?

Thanks for the idea, we got both computers running with the two logins and it looks like that will work a treat. Programming is not my forte, so I'll stick with the simple-to-me solution :)
