I just updated and all of my campaign data is gone, characters, notes, items etc. For reference, I ran a campaign this time yesterday and it was fine.
I have multiple games running, I have only checked one so far to see if it's just the one game or all of them.

Please post a screen shot of your \campaigns folder

So, where might I find that? I'm not seeing a campaign folder in my install directory

Hi OneNublet
Your post looked a lot like a bot post...
Ok so close Fantasy Grounds.
Launch Fantasy Grounds and on the splash screen there is a folder/explorer icon.
Click that and then go to campaigns - take a screenshot or snip
Then open the folder with your campaign name and do the same.
Please post the images.

Not a bot, last I checked.

I just checked the second campaign on that list, that data seems to be fine. But the Curse of Strahd campaign is totally empty, all player data and all my notes are gone.

First make a copy of the campaign and save it somewhere safe. Then in the original campaign folder click the view button at the top of the window and check the show file extensions.
You should now see .xml at the end of each of the file names. Now find the db.xml file and rename it to something like dbold.xml. Then make a copy if the latest session.xml file and rename the copy to db.xml and start the campaign. If that doesn’t have your data you may have to go back to and earlier session file and rename that to db.xml.

I backed up the copy, is there a way to save out the character sheets that were added back to the empty game? I had a couple of people join late, we realized everything was blank; but I went ahead and had them enter their characters since we had planned on doing that today.

Yes, just export the characters from the broken and then import into the fixed one.

make sure FG is closed
rename db.xml to db.notabot
make a copy of db.session.20210202.xml and then rename the copy to db.xml
start fg and load campaign as normal

Awesome, the DB fix worked, much appreciated. Last dumb question, how do I export? I only see the import option

Oddly, it took a couple sessions back to get the non blank game, but that worked thank you. I'd like to try to export the sheets that were done today, I guess I can try to google how to do that. I don't see any apparent options around the character creation options or PCs.
Figured it out, could have just googled that. The DB issue was definitely beyond me, so thank you for the help @damned and @zacchaeus

Sorry - no longer in front of my FG computer.
(I think you do this)
In FGU just load your main campaign and then use the Import button. It should allow you to import characters from any other campaign using the same ruleset. They will import direct from the other campaign.
Now if the other campaign is this campaign then try this.
create a copy of the whole this campaign folder in the /campaigns folder
call it No Bots Here
go in and rename the current db.xml to db.good
and rename db. notabot to db.xml
Then reload the this campaign and do the import.
Hopefully youw ill see your new toons.

Most data corruptions are caused by FG not closing properly - either by the user closing the window using the X at the top right (instead or right click and selecting close) or by power shut dows or similar actions.

... Or data corruptions can be caused by active sync/backup solutions pointing at the FG live data ...

Surely clicking the X triggers a shutdown procedure?

Surely clicking the X triggers a shutdown procedure?
Not if you're running FGC in Mac or Linux - as that's in a Wine wrapper and it just ends the app without FG going through a proper shutdown process.

That I don't know.

In FGU, it does; but in the Mac/Linux VM-wrapped FGC, it didn't. The only other times I've seen corrupted database files is when using file synching software on the FG data directory, or when the application hard-crashes during a write.
