Howdy - I have been DMing a FGC campaign for a year. But that campaign stopped abruptly when my ethernet adapter died. No problem I thought, I'll switch to a wireless adapter, update my port forwarding rules accordingly....nope, that doesn't work. Tried my laptop, on the wireless and ethernet - nope. Borrowed a spare desktop from work to try its ethernet - nope.

I've tried just about everything I can think of (specific rules/forwarding, DMZ, windows firewall entirely off). It really got too frustrating to keep attempting it, so the campaign has been on pause for months.

Trying to think of other things to attempt - does Unity have different networking protocols? And if so, is there any way I can test the connection as a host before purchasing the license? From a cursory bit of research I read that it uses the same port, but on UDP. Does this seem like a fruitful thing to try?

thanks for any thoughts.

Hi beingmused

Have a look at the Fantasy Grounds Connections explained thread. It might help you locate the issue.
Most likely things to try -
Make sure the WiFi adapter/profile is set to Private
Delete your Port Forward rules and reboot your router and then add them back in.

For FGU the manual setup method is identical except its UDP1802 instead of TCP1802. Otherwise you still have to do everything else.
However there is a cloud service that brokers the connections for you and means you generally dont have to do any setup...

You've posted in the Unity house of healing? Are you actually using Unity or are you using Classic?

OP wants to know is she/he should switch to Unity to solve the networking methinks.

Ah, I misread (well actually didn't read enough).
