Hey all,
Recent versions of the DCC ruleset have included a few changes to spell records, so I'm posting this thread as a walkthrough of the basic features.
Here is what the blank spell record looks like when the record is unlocked, and this is what you will see when you create a new spell:
43181
CASTING TABLE
Let's look at the casting table first. This section will contain the spell check results, and this is what the ruleset references when creating a chat message. The casting result will display in the chat window if the Game option Chat: Show casting table result is enabled.
Click the brown Edit List button, followed by the Add Item button.
43182
You will see two empty number fields. The first field is the "from range" and the second is the "to range."
To the right of the number fields is a string field, which contains two dashed lines when you first create the entry.
To the far right is a red Delete Item button that you need to click twice to remove a table row.
Add additional entries as needed. For the last entry in the casting table, enter a large number for the "to range" - higher than the highest possible spell check result.
43183
Some spells allow you to substitute a lower spell check result. You can left-click and drag the desired result from the spell record to the chat window to display for the group.
MERCURIAL MAGIC EFFECT AND SPELL MANIFESTATION
Next, we will focus on the Merc. Magic and Manifestation fields. When the spell is first dropped to the character, the mercurial magic field is blank, and the manifestation field displays the default text from the rules.
Roll for the spell manifestation as instructed by the text. Then, edit the field to contain only the specific manifestation for your character. This text will display in the chat window on a successful spell check roll when the Game option Chat: Show spell manifestation is enabled.
43184
Roll on Table 5-2 for your mercurial magic effect, remembering to modify the roll by 10% per point of Luck modifier. I use the modifier box in the lower left corner of the desktop for this. You can left-click and drag the table result from the chat window to the mercurial magic field on the spell record to save time. Again, this text will display in the chat window on a successful spell check roll when the Game option Chat: Show mercurial magic effect is enabled.
