Please help if you can! I can't get FGU to download because my computer won't download Microsoft Visual C ++. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling MVC++, didn't work. Tried going into safe mode, couldn't get into safe mode. I'm not great with IT stuff so I don't know what else to try. I've tried the basic Googling of the issue of MVC++ not downloading but couldn't find anything helpful. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. I'm having to use remote desktop just to play in my games right now!

hey bookworm3717
Unfortunately MVC not installing is almost always a sign of other things broken deeper down.
You might consider backing all your data up and resetting/reinstalling Windows.
The plus side to doing this is your computer will likely run smoother too.

Is that possible to have something broken deeper down if my computer is barely a year old? I don’t know much about this IT stuff.

Its not likely to be a hardware issue - its most likely a software issue.
Sometimes things fail to install or update or uninstall correctly or there is a conflict between two or more applications or drivers.
Im sure your issue could be resolved but it might take some IT sleuthing and patience and a little expertise or luck.
I suggested the reinstall to you as you indicated you might be a bit light on the IT expertise side.
If you do reset your computer please, please, make sure you have backed everything up.
Twice.

How do I do the Windows reinstall?

Please confirm - what is the operating system of your computer? And is it 32- or 64-bit?

What is the actual error you get?
Have you just tried installing Fantasy Grounds and not installing MVC separately?

Classic Fantasy Ground installs fine but when I try to install unity it says I have to have the most up to date MVC, then tries to install it and it says setup failed on MVC then won’t let me install unity.

Could you post a screen shot of the MVC failure?

I suspect the next thing Damned is going to ask for is if you can click on the Log File and upload here.

That suggests it doesn't think your operating system is correct.
Can you upload a screenshot of the "System Summary" page from the Window System Information application. In the "Type here to search" field in the Windows toolbar at the bottom left, start typing system and then click on "System Information" when it displays. Take a screenshot of the System Summary page and post here.

Is it possible you are running a 32bit windows install?

Is it possible you are running a 32bit windows install?
I'm thinking it might even be an RT or S install.

Is RT still a thing? Definitely could be a S install.

Your Surface Pro X is using an ARM64 CPU.
The MVC will only install on X86-64 CPUs.
Unfortunately, Microsoft (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/porting/apps-on-arm-troubleshooting-x86) has not yet created an emulation layer for X86-64 ISA for ARM, they are supposedly working on it though. Current emulation is only for the Win32 (32-bit) API, the Win64 API is not able to be emulated.
The devs will have to answer for certain, but I do not think FG will run on that platform (even if you could install the MVC). It is limited to X86 -64 CPUs at the moment (even on macOS it can run on the M1, but it uses emulation).

So is there anything I can do or is FGU a no go for me with my computer?

As I said, the devs will have to weigh in, but I do not think they have a version compiled for ARM64 ISA at this time.
The Unity platform should allow them to compile for Windows on ARM64, it really will depend on if they have resources to do so (I am not a developer, so I could be way off here).
If you have a standard Windows computer (with either an Intel or AMD CPU) it should work fine.

Can you log a ticket at https://support.fantasygrounds.com and let them know you are running ARM64 on a Surface Pro X
Ask them if/when they will have an ARM64 build
Please can you share the result here.

Also be aware, if they are not going to be able to support your architecture, make sure to take SmiteWorks up on the refund policy. No need to pay for something you can't use :)
