View Full Version : Maps not loading properly for players

Maps simply aren't loading correctly for players. I've tried loading different maps, some work, some don't.

The maps that don't work typically have tiny patches that have loaded, but they are super dark. The rest of the map is blacked out, see image below.

I'm using LOS, but turning walls it off and turning walls off doesn't help.

Homebrew campaign, made the maps myself, all formatted as jpegs.

Any recommendations?

Make sure that the characters click on one of the player tokens as they can only see what the token they have clicked on sees.

@JonnyG —*they have and they have moved the tokens around by dragging/dropping them and by arrow keys. No luck.

How big (file size) are the map JPG files?

Between 500KB and 1.2MB

Do you have LoS on bits of the map that are in folders? Did you create the maps in Unity? Does this happen with a map you didn't create?

I don't know what you mean by that?

> Did you create the maps in Unity?

No, these are JPEGs I exported from another service

> Does this happen with a map you didn't create?

…I feel dumb for not checking this! I'll run a test with some other maps when I get back.

That's good, so can't be the problem.

The screenshot seems to suggest that one of the player tokens has revealed LoS at some point, but now it's dark indicating that the token no longer has LoS to that point.

In game mode, try turning off LoS, removing the player tokens from the map and re-adding them to the map. Can they now see any of it?

Additionally, if you start up a second instance on the same computer as the GM instance, join the campaign as a player - do you see the same that the players are seeing?

This I did already try. I moved them to different maps, turned LOS off, turned shortcuts off, etc. Every switch I could flick, I did. Moved them between maps, logged them off, unshared the maps, etc.

I haven't tried dual instances, I can give that a go in a bit.

Then I'm thinking that the FG database record for the image has some issue. The devs may well want to get a copy of your campaign to see what's going on - and see if it's something that needs to be fixed.

Please log a support ticket through the Customer Portal - reference this thread. Make a copy of the campaign directory so that devs can request files to see what might be the problem.

After making a copy of your campaign directory, without your campaign loaded remove the images from the campaign "images" directory. Then load up your campaign and add back one of the images. Then see if it has any issues. Of course, any previously added LoS etc. will be lost, but something in all of that isn't working correctly; best to start afresh with the image.
