View Full Version : [5e] PCs seeing incorrect portrait

I'm having an unfortunate issue at the moment whereby portraits are either slow to update for some PCs, or show the wrong thing altogether;

- A new PC was created and a portrait was added. I've since updated the portrait for that PC, however the owner is the only one unable to see the updated version

- For the same PC, their second PCs portrait is from a completely different character and has never been added to that PC. The image is from an old PC I created months ago and was long since deleted. It's unfortunate, because it's a big spoiler for my campaign. It has since resolved itself for that PC, but still shows up for one other.

I've had portraits issues before when making changes/ updates, but they have generally synced up eventually. This time, though, I'm mega confused as to how the second point even happened and how to solve it.

Any suggestions?

Edit: Portrait, not token

It is not just 5E. I had similar problems with an ALIEN rpg game. The characters die fairly quickly and new one come in. It seemed like every time a character changed, its portrait was an old one from a different character in the game.

The portrait images are stored within the campaign directory, with a reference to the PC ID number within the FG database. If you delete a PC and then create a new PC, it might be assigned a previously used ID number and therefore get the old portrait/token associated with it. Just change the portrait/token as needed. I think it would be good if the FG code deleted the local graphic file related to a PC when the PC is deleted from the campaign.

Is there a way to do this manually? As in, where is the folder located and could I possibly just find and delete it myself? I've replaced the portrait a number of times but it won't update for the one player, for some reason.

Edit: Think I found the correct folder, but unfortunately the files are just ID'd and it's unclear which one is the correct one to delete - unless I'm missing something. I daren't delete them all.

I don't think this will fix your specific issue - as it's a GM side thing; as you're seeing the correct portrait then the campaign has the right portrait.

I'd recommend the player delete's their local cache before rejoining your game. The player should go to the <FG app data>\cache directory - click the folder icon in the top right of the FGU startup screen and then navigate to the "cache" directory from the file explorer window that opens - delete the directory with the name of the campaign. Then rejoin the game and see if the portrait downloads correctly.

I believe some of this is caused because of the GM updates certain data while players are not connected, FG doesn't know to resend that data to the client when they connect. So cache clearing is the solution when that happens. Same thing can happen with maps as well I believe.

Brill, ok, will have everyone give that a go and hopefully it sorts itself.

Thanks!
