View Full Version : Modules not loading

Hi,
I've been trying to load a couple of modules including the Portals module into a 3.5e campaign with no success at all. The extension loads but the module does not come up in the load list. Even created a new 3.5e campaign to ensure it was nothing to do with my old 3.5e campaign but no joy. Loads fine in 5e campaignes so I am somewhat confused.
Deleted FantasyGrounds and reinstalled just to be sure I had not done something dumb, so now I am out of ideas.
Be great if anyone has a bright idea on this one!

What is this Portals module?
If its a 5E module it will only load in 5E.
Try the Universal Modules extension and see if you can load it then.

Portal is an extension not a module. It is from the DMsGuild and therefore probably only designed to work with 5E. You will need to reach out the developer/publisher to find out if it is intended to work in any other ruleset, as well as to resolve any support issues with it.

Hi Damned, it should work with 3.5 as well as 5 and after adding the extension you suggested it all works fine. So, thanks for that!

Sadly I was mistaken. The ext is working fine but the module not so much. Tried it in 5e campaign as well but still no joy.
I did note that on starting up FGU and going into settings, my password is not being saved and so I am not being logged in. Reset everything but same problem.
Any ideas would be gratefully received!

Start FGU
Log into Settings -> Advanced
note down the path to App and Data
Login and run the update
Then go into Settings -> Advanced and check if they are still the same.

Thanks for the reply Damned. Did all that and the settings did not change.
The update showed no purchases and no purchased modules were in the module list despite being in the folder.

Please provide a screenshot of the FG startup screen (before loading a campaign).

Thanks for the screenshots. That shows that FG is recognising your standard license key, and your FG username of TamarValleyPete. So all good there.
Let's take a step back - which modules can't you see in a 3.5E campaign? Please provide a link to where those modules can be found.

So, currently can't get 769337-SPELL_TOKENS_2.1 in either 3.5 or 5.0
Here it is in the module directory below

Got that one from https://www.dmsguild.com/product/195599/DUNGEONS-AND-DRAGONS-5e-Spell-Tokens-21?term=spell+tokens
Also had the portals mod from the same company and had the same issues with it in both 3.5 and 5.0
Thanks for your continued support - much appreciated,
Pete

If other modules are working, then it could be an issue with the module you're downloading. As LordEntrails mentioned in post #3, you'll need to get in touch with the module author for support of paid modules external to the FG store.

In truth the only modules that work are the ones that I made.
Did try the author for support but was met with a stony silence sadly.
Thanks,
Pete

Try this:
1) Load up the 5E test campaign you have.
2) Go to the Library -> Module activation screen.
3) Take a screenshot of the screen and upload that here.

Here you go. Note, the portals entry is the instructions mod not the active mod itself

Thanks for that. It shows that the other 5E modules in your screenshot in post #11 are available. So this does look like the issue is with the downloaded .mod file.

Hmmm, confused is me then as my neighbour has the same mod and it works for him. I had hoped that something weird was going on with my copy of FGU but reinstalling produced no results either.
Personally stumped!

Copy 769337-SPELL_TOKENS_2.1.mod to a different directory and change the .mod extension to .zip. Extract the file structure and post a screenshot of the file structure unzipped.

Ah, so there's no data there, it's purely a token module. In FGU you don't need to open token only modules. Access all tokens in modules directly from the "Tokens" section of the Assets window.

Yes, that is in fact what I did. Still leaves me with the portal module not working though. I had hoped both module problems would be the same thing and it would be easily identified as the token one has no complicating factors!
Too simplistic?

Too simplistic?
Don't know. Depends on what kind of module the Portals module is. Please provide the same info (file structure and XML) as you did for the tokens module and perhaps we can work it out! :)

Oops, think this is just the instruction module. Will get a copy of the active module xml from a friend in a min

If you don't own the module then you aren't going to see it in your module data activation screen - unless you are connected to your DM and your DM has shared the module. I don't know what Portals is (well I have a vague idea) but if it is connected to an extension it's unlikely that you need it since that will all be driven by the DM.

Hi Zacchaeus, I am the DM.
another DM friend of mine also owns the same module. Having looked hard at his system it rather seems I have mistaken the problem. I thought that the module saying it was the instructions actually seems to be the whole thing. On my friend's system, when he loaded the extension, it created a new sidebar button for creating the portals. This does not happen when I put the ext file in the ext folder so that may in fact be the problem. Probably a question for the author then. Sadly, he seems otherwise engaged. Ho hum, life!
Thanks for all your help though moderators all, narrowed the problem down at least.

Apart from putting the extension in the extensions folder you have selected it from the list of extensions when you start your campaign right? - Just to cover all the bases.

Just putting the .ext file in the \extensions folder doesn't load the extension. You need to select it on the load campaign screen before starting your campaign.

Do you need to go to Options and enable the sidebar button? I’m guessing not, but...

Nice one dogfisc - that was exactly what I needed to do. Never noticed that option before.

Glad you got it all sorted out. It's never a waste of time helping an FG user who comes to the forums looking for help.
