Okay so I want to pre-build encounters for my table and what I've been doing is clicking the encounter button, making the encounter, adding it to combat tracker and then putting it on the map just before handing the map to the players.

This works but in reality what happens is this.

Me: You encounter a large group of hostile whatevers

Also me: Okay guys, hold on a minute while I position these thirty creatures around the map and make sure they're facing the right direction.

Five minutes later: Okay, so as you step out of the tree line and onto the beach you see thirty strange looking whatevers chasing a small group of elves.

What I've noticed when I try to pre-build a big encounter is that there are usually smaller encounters on the way to the big one, I have the clear the combat tracker which removes the tokens from the map and when we FINALLY get to the encounter it becomes "Hold on guys, let me set this up"

Is there any way I can pre-build the encounters and the enemy locations on the map without them having to be in the combat tracker? When I remove them from the combat tracker (Because we're not in combat with them, but another smaller encounter) it removes them from the map as well.

Also, can someone direct me to the wiki article about adding weapons to NPC's? I've been getting by with copying and pasting weapon info from other NPC's to get what I want but now I want to add a weapon from the item list that I cannot find on another NPC. I am trying to add the "Rifle, Hunting" and it's properties but I do not know how. EDIT: May have found what I was looking for... https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/5E_Combat_Tracker#DM_View_Action_Entry_Example

Yes. Create the encounters before the session; place the NPCs on the map by dragging the small icons below the name. Once done close the encounter and then pin the encounter either to the map location or to a story entry pinned to that location. When the players encounter the encounter click the pin or link to open it and then click the down arrow. This will place the creatures on the CT and on the map. Yep - learn Encounters and it is very easy then.

Thank you sooo much! Sorry for the delayed response, was playing 5e with my ground from a few hours after I woke up until about a half hour before I went to bed.

DMing is so much fun! This thread just made it 10000x better! Thanks for the help :D
