View Full Version : Strange graphics glitch on map

DM, Curse of Strahd 5e, FG Unity. Only a few of Rob Twohy's extensions loaded.

Finished this map last night for this afternoon's game. Opened it up this morning for a bit of fine tuning and found it looking like this (screenshot attached). Haven't had time to really investigate it, but it doesn't appear to be a layer, i.e. it can't be selected.

Any ideas?

You have a lot of layers. Check that they are all visible and in the right order.

Thanks. Done, all good. The only layer that wasn't showing was fx Myst, nothing changes when it's switched on. I know there's a lot of layers but I've made maps with more without getting this issue.

I suspect someone is going to have to take a look at your campaign/map and see if they can reproduce it. Others have posted a few issues in the past about folders, so it may be related to that. Not sure.

Can you export the image to a module and share? Does it use FG Store assets (and which ones) or ?

If it's not something you can share, then you should be able to send it directly to support, link is in Mr Z's signature.

Thanks, but that might not be necessary, I think I know what I did wrong. I was experimenting with fx layers, I tried drawing a Water layer under a Myst layer, I can't remember precisely what action I was attempting but whatever it was, FG didn't like it and stopped responding. After waiting a bit I shut it down via Taskmaster. I presume this has corrupted the file in some way.

Is it not possible to have more than one fx layer on a map?

You can do more than one fx on a map. I've done it without problem. Think I have one map with 3 or 4 in different places.

@ LordEntrails; Really? Is there a video showing the process? Is it possible to have one fx layer showing through another e.g. moving water showing through mist or rain?

You can certainly have more than one fx on the same map layer and even more than one fx in the same location. I'm not sure if one would poke through another one but you can certainly put one on top of another and have different cut outs.

Video six here might help https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?55797-How-do-I-in-Unity&p=492112#post492112

@Zacchaeus. Thanks, good video but not quite what I was trying to achieve. Is it possible to have one fx layer that's transparent to another one e.g. mist drifting across moving water?

Yeah, just create another fx layer :) Put the mist above the water :)

The graphical glitch is now resolved? I had that once, too, and that was due to some erronous graphics file of some module :)

I also see that you put layers into layer folders and that they contain LoS info. Just for your information: LoS information of layers in folders won't always work correctly :) It is better to have them outside then :) (the bug is known, so, hopefully fixed at some point)

Will try to upload the map later tonight. It's actually an update to the map I shared in the map share thread. Ping me if I don't post in in the next 12 hours.

The graphical glitch is now resolved? Not resolved, but I've binned the maps and I'll redraw with a slightly different approach. It's all part of the learning curve.

LoS information of layers in folders won't always work correctly :) I didn't know that. I don't recall any issues like that, but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for your feedback.

Ping me if I don't post in in the next 12 hours. I'd be happy to do that if I knew what it meant.

I'm pleased to report that I had another go at putting fx layers over each other, and this time it worked perfectly. I'm still at a loss as to what I did to cause that glitch - although I suspect it might have something to do with moving layers up and down the stack, as I've had issues with this before (although not for some time) - but now I know how to do it properly I doubt if I'll make the same mistake again.

Many thanks for all comments.
