FGU not updating

Hello,

Last week my players stated there was an update to FGU. When I logged in, I checked for updated but I remained on 4.0.5. When my players logged in, they were all on 4.0.6. I’ve checked every day since then and I’m still on the older version.

I’m currently on a 64-bit Windows 10 OS.

Check if you have two installs of Fantasy Grounds. Possibly you are updating the *other install*...

Can you search your computer hard drive(s) for 5e.pak and confirm if you have one or two copies?

Also verify that you have no sub-folders in the ruleset folder. Unzipped ruleset paks will not be updated.

The reason @damned asked about two installations is that a few users have reported having multiple copies of the FGU FantasyGrounds.exe on their computers, with the Windows startup shortcut pointing to an older version. But, when the updater is ran, it updates a different file. But when you start FG again with the shortcut, the old version is ran.

When you start FGU, click the "Settings" button and go to the "Advanced" tab. Make a note of the location of the "App Directory", close the settings window and any currently running instances of FG, and then navigate to that directory in File Explorer. In the directory, double-click on FantasyGrounds.exe - what version does it show when it starts?

Delete FantasyGrounds.exe from that directory.

1) Try running for FGU shortcut in the Windows start menu/your desktop. This should fail. If it doesn't then it means there's another FG executable - look at the "start in" settings for the shortcut - where is it pointing?
2) a. Assuming #1 fails. With FantasyGrounds.exe deleted from the App directory, run FantasyGroundsUpdater.exe. What version does it show (version and date)?
b. Run an update. As FantasyGrounds.exe has now been deleted, you should see "FantasyGrounds updating" and a blue status bar showing it downloading. When that completes, you should have a new FantasyGrounds.exe file. Run that direct (double-click on it), don't run it from the shortcut. What version does it show now?

The updater was 4.0.0 I was finally able to get FGU to update by following these steps

1) Go to settings
2) Go to Troubleshoot tab
3) Click "Force App Update"

Afterwards I am now running 4.0.6
