Can someone please advise, when you choose let's say history skill, what I thought that history skill is knowledge of all things that is described under that skill, however, when I choose to make cleric it was mentioned in proficiencies, skills to choose two from history skill. So my question is history just history skill or is there sub skills within the history like knowledge of places or people? tnx!

You can actually set it up any way you want but its generally a broad generalization. But as you specialize in a knowledge skill, it can become more specialized. For most campaigns I would keep it more generalized, unless you are investing a lot of time in the small details in history. Something like this. Knowledge (History) World, Kingdom/National, then Local. As you go down the knowledge becomes more specific and generally more useful to the characters playing the game. For anything you might miss or add in later, there are always sages, prophets and old tomes and libraries just waiting to be discovered by the players by accident or providence. Hope that helps.

Importantly for what ruleset? - since different rules will apply depending on the ruleset.

Thank you for answering my question :) I was referring to the 5e ruleset. Thing is I have played a lot of d&d 2e waaay back but as I moved abroad and with this COVID me and my friends decided to return back to the roots :) and all the things I have watched online about FGU and 5e really got me hooked and interested in the system but things change and I find some of the things a little bit overwhelming as I was outside of being GM and playing d&d for a while. If you can just explain one more thing, back in the days I remember that, let's say thieves had a lockpick skill, and if u attempt to use it u had to throw the dice, but here in fgu, I don't see an option especially for lockpick as it is placed all together under dex check, just confuse how to determine lockpick success as it is offered when making character to choose it as ability but it is not giving the option to role a dice. Thanks in advance.

In 5E it states for cleric, "Skills: Choose two from History, Insight, Medicine, Persuasion, and Religion." So in this example there is only one history skill. But it is listed as one of the skills, that you can choose from the five listed skills.

Lockpick is no longer a skill in 5E, and most generally rolled with a (Dex)sleight of hand check. You could choose to add the custom skill of thieves tools or lockpick to make it less confusing though.
