View Full Version : "Selected" ring shouldn't scale with token size, should it?

Hi,

I'm trying to use spell tokens on the map, but at present they are almost unusable (to my eyes) if they are attached to a PC, as for an aura etc., because the ring that indicates they are selected is scaling with the token size. For many spells this token size is very large which presents with a huge coloured ring around then. I would say that in general there is no need for the ring to ever scale, if we can see a certain thickness on 'small' tokens the same thickness would work equally well for huge tokens. It would be even nicer to be able to turn that ring off for specific tokens.

Related but, possibly, separate, is it possible to reduce the opacity of a selected token's background? Again if you attach a spell/aura etc. token to a player's token (eg. Blade Barrier or Spirit Guardians) it's then really difficult to move them together as the spell token's background is so opaque as to obscure the map. Again it would be great to be able to remove this effect totally for specific tokens. I hope this make sense?

Cheers,

Simon

There is no way to attach a token to a player's token so I'm assuming you must be using some kind of extension? If so it's probably better to take this up with whoever wrote the extension.

The things I'm asking about, the scaling of the 'selected' ring and the opacity of a selected token's background are intrinsic to Unity, nothing to do with using an extension. My question, whilst using a specific behaviour as an example, is to do with the way Unity works, not the extension. But for clarity's sake, I'll remove reference to how I sometimes may wish to use the tokens, my basic question still stands.

I'm trying to use spell tokens on the map, but at present they are almost unusable (to my eyes) because the ring that indicates they are selected is scaling with the token size. This is also true for large NPCs.

Blade Barrier or Spirit Guardians) it's then really difficult to see the map as the opacity obscures it. Again it would be great to be able to remove this effect totally for specific tokens. I hope this make sense?

I am not sure what the plans of SmiteWorks are with respect to tokens, but at the meantime I would really recommend to either use pointers for that, or add the spells as images to the map (so, they have their own layer you can manipulate as GM, including opacity) :) I especially prefer the latter

Yeah, I think that may be for the best at the moment and see what the future holds. Cheers.

Still I think it's always worth letting SW know what some of us would hope to see in the future development of tokens, fingers crossed!

Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant. I just assumed you were using images as @Kelrugem is suggesting and that there was some issue with those images. Basically tokens don't stack terribly well so using layers and images is the way to go. You can't attach the image to the token (at least I'm not aware of a method of doing so) but you can move the image around and resize it etc and it doesn't get in the way of anything.

No worries. And thanks for your help, it's always appreciated.

Unlocking and relocking token scale might help, but I suspect that might affect the selection ring size of all tokens. Haven't tried.

Spell effects aren't going to work very well as tokens; because tokens are meant to be used to represent "actors" on the map.

For FGU, I recommend seeing if you can get your spell effects set up as "images" instead; then, you can layer on the map as needed.
