I am new to Fantasy Grounds. If i wanted to see what is possible, how best to go about it? I am an old DnD player who is getting back into it (my son has helped to reignite this flame). My first thought is i probably should experience a session and then consider... What are your suggestions? I have a large set of 2nd & now 5th Ed. non-electronic materials...

Welcome to FG LoudPaul.

I'd start with the user manual (click the link on the start page) or dip into some videos. There's various links here for the 5e ruleset; not sure what there is for the Classic rulesets. https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?27296-Guides-videos-and-other-helpful-information

You could also try and get yourself into a pick up game or a one shot adventure. See here for GM's advertising games https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?40-LFG-Looking-for-Group

And there's the Discord channel too. https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?36377-Official-Discord-Server

And probably not a bad idea to sign up with the FG College as well https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?40020-Join-Fantasy-Grounds-College-Learn-Fantasy-Grounds-learn-D-amp-D-and-then-play!

Hey Lord Paul!
I'm the D&D AL consultant for FG and I run some DM Trainings and our monthly D&D event. If you're looking to learn FG to DM, I have a 2.5 hour training that takes you from new to the software to able to run a prepared module coming thus Tuesday the 22nd and the following week on the 28th.

We are also having our gameday event this Saturday if you want to sign up for a game and get to experience the software from the player side. A free demo license for FG Unity is all you need. I attached the event flier in case you'd like to check it out.

Best,
Violet

Welcome. You are in a great place.

5e is extremely well supported on FG.

Further, should you decide that you want to get use out of your older materials, the AD&D Classics (2e) ruleset is in my opinion the most feature and functionality packed ruleset that FG has. If you want a bit of a guided tour around the AD&D ruleset, send me a PM here on the forums or on Discord at JohnD#1818.

While it would be the right thing for me, reading the manual as @Zacchaeus recommends is not for everyone. However between his recommendation and @viviolay's, one or both of those approaches together should take care of you.

I would also recommend heading over to the Fantasy Grounds College and taking one of our Character Creation, and our Combat 101 class. The link to our Discord is: https://discord.gg/QJYQhA2Z.
