View Full Version : Why can't I load the sample campaigns?

Just installed FGU for the first time and trying to learn how to use it. I see 3 sample campaigns in the game files (and saved in my directory), but when I start the game, the "Load Campaign" button is greyed out. What am I doing wrong? I have run the updated multiple times with no luck.

Did you change the channel specified in the Advanced settings of the updater? Each channel uses a different data directory.

Build channel is set to "Live."

If I create a new campaign, I can load it, but not any of the three pre-made campaigns.

Where are the example campaigns showing up on your hard drive? (Exact file path)
What is the file path shown as the data folder in the FG Settings?
Is that the data folder where you originally installed?

Are there any files in those sample campaign directories?

In my campaign directory I have 3 sample campaigns(5E Sample Campaign, A Tale of Dinor - 3.5E, and A Tale of Dinor - 4E). However, all three of them are empty except for 3 empty sub-directories (images, portraits, usersettings). None of these show in FGU, presumably since there is no content.

Subdirectories are empty, but there are 4 XML files and a HTML file in the 5E campaign. I was hoping to play the 5E Sample to learn the system.

It sounds like the examples did not get fully installed for some reason; or the campaign.xml file is missing for reason other than an install issue; or maybe the XML files got modifier/corrupted some how. It's hard to determine; since I haven't seen many reports.

When did you originally install FGU?

Also, I've created a new post here with a zipped up copy of the example campaigns, for anyone who wants a fresh copy or for anyone that had install problems.

I only installed yesterday. Maybe I will try an uninstall and fresh install later. Or maybe the files you provided will do the trick. I'll have to play with it more this evening.

I noticed the files are zip, I assume they just need to be renamed to .mod?

In case this information is helpful, these directories appear to have been created when I re-installed FGU on Dec 1. When I uninstalled, I did not remove the FGU data directory, and I did not have any of these campaigns in my campaigns folder prior to the re-install.

@Ecks,
Thanks for letting me know. I know the examples were not installing at some time in the past; which was why I was asking when the OP installed.

@LordEntrails,
No. Campaigns only support folders. These files will need to be unzipped into the campaigns directory.

Thanks Moon, I knew that... but obviously did not register in my brain!
