View Full Version : are there many many bugs in PF1, or am I just dumb?

Hi,

I just spent a ton of money on the Fantasy Grounds and a bunch of PF1 add-ons, but it does not seem to be working as advertised.

I'm able to load all the relevant modules and books, but when I start a campaign even the most basic character creation isn't working.

I'm not able to add any class levels; instead, I can just type in a class, but then I have to calculate everything manually.

Same thing with race - I'm not able to select a race from a drop down or menu; instead, I can just type it in.

Sure I can pull up a list of races to view, but nothing to select that would automatically apply all the racial characteristics to the character.

Of course this is not what I'm looking for...I expected to be able to input the characters using menus, and then have all the modifiers, etc. calculated automatically.

Am I missing something obvious?

Or do I just misunderstand how all this works?

thanks

Don’t know this ruleset that well but generally you drag and drop race/class etc from the list into the relevant section of the character sheet.

As Zacchaeus said, you need to drag&drop races, classes etc. from the sidebar onto the character sheet :) But beware, FG is not a character builder many things just create informational stuff for the sheet, the actions for spells etc. you still often need to create manually (or use a community module for that) :) FG is automatable but not necessarily automated :)

Thanks! I was able to get the race...but not the class.

Where do I go to display a list of classes?? I don't see anything clickable.

With the caveat that Fantasy Grounds is a virtual tabletop (VTT) not a character tool, basic creation is as follows:

(The assumption based on "I just spent a ton of money on the Fantasy Grounds and a bunch of PF1 add-ons" is that you own at least the Pathfinder Core Rules DLC. If not, substitute any mention of that for one of the SRD modules such as PFRPG Basic Rules.)

1) Load into your PFRPG campaign then click the Library button on the bottom of the sidebar. Click the Modules button and load Pathfinder Core Rules.
2) Click the Characters button at the top of the sidebar and either right-click and choose Create New Item or click the + button on the lower left which has the tooltip "Add Item." This creates a new character record in the window. Click the new record to bring up its character sheet.
3) Roll your attributes and type the numbers into the appropriate box. (If you're using FG Unity I think there is a /die command for 'roll 3d6 drop the lowest' but I am not familiar with what it is, but if you use that you can simply 'grab' the result out of the chat window and drop it onto the attribute box. FG Classic does not have that custom die command.)
4) From your Library window, select the Pathfinder Core Rules entry then click both the Classes and Races links to bring up the selection windows. (Alternatively, you will notice Classes, Races and all the other data types the ruleset accepts in the upper section of the Library window. You can click those and use the radio selector to add/remove any of those from your sidebar.)
5) Drag and drop a class to the Class & Level line on the character sheet. The character sheet will populate with that class' abilities, etc. and you will be prompted to choose your Favored Class and Favored Class Bonus.
6) Drag and drop a race to the Race line on the character sheet. Race features including attribute modifiers will populate.

From there, continue 'shopping' with equipment, feats, spells, whatever the class needs. Everything is available from multiple spots, be it from the individual 'book' entry in your Library page or your sidebar.

This screenshot is the D&D Classic ruleset (AD&D 2E) not Pathfinder 1E by the way... :)

Thank you!! Very helpful....I will try again and see how far I get :-)

I don't suppose there's a written guide somewhere I can print out? Talyn, your post has been much more helpful than anything I could find the knowledge base or user manual.

There's a ton of videos on it. Googling found this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsDJrKPQ_lU

That one was classic, so searched for a unity one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEKWjA0FY7w

You can also right-click on the d10, there is a d100 option :)

For skill checks etc., rather use the sheets, and when you just want to quickly roll a d20 you can just drag&drop the d20 into the chat, no need to use the macro then :) (when it is for hotkeys, you can also drag&drop dice into the hotkeys)
