I can confirm this; it isn't quite so far away in the 5e theme but it's attached to the lower left of the box rather than lower right.

That link icon is for the name; not the initiative box. There is no Initiative field on the PC sheet; so no linkage. The link icon indicates that any changes on those fields will also update the PC sheet.
