View Full Version : How does the DR on the character sheet for 3.5e actually work?

So, literally on the character sheet for 3.5e there is a slot for Damage Reduction right below the hitpoints and so on.
This implies the idea that players should be able to put their DR in there and just have it work without having to do the retarded effects work around for bad design we have had to use in FGC for so long.
Yet nothing I put in there seems to have any impact on anything at all. Is this box just a useless deception?

That is just informational, use effects for the DR :) though I do not understand why the effect system is bad for that, DR works pretty good :)

That line field is just for it to appear in the party sheet window, just informational

The effect system is not intuitive, but it is really powerfull if you spend some time with it. Dont give up because it looks like programming code and is really sensitive to correct spelling.

The effect is;
For damage reduction 5 all it is
Dr: 5

For dr 8 silver it is
Dr: 8 silver

in setting up in PF2e which also has that "Damage Reduction" line below the HP. It isn't intuitive AT ALL that this area is for display purposes only. I just wasted like 30 minutes trying to figure out why a RESIST effect put there did nothing

I've been toying with the idea of removing it in PF2 as it can be confusing - I just don't want to remove it if people are using it for reference. PF2 RESIST effects go in the Character Effects of the Combat tab.

thanks for looking into this Trenloe. I would vote to remove it. Especially since the "Senses" field above it looks exactly the same, but functions differently. OR just retitle that field to "Notes"

I think renaming it's a good idea. I'll change it to "HP/Defense Notes" in a future PF2 ruleset release.

That sounds great! Thanks again!
