View Full Version : FGU Crashing or stuttering at launch

I've been having some weird problems lately with FGU.
When I first launch it, my entire screen including desktop and task bar turns black for about 5 seconds. It comes back, but the Fantasy Grounds window is blank white. After a minute or two it crashes.

This doesn't happen all the time though. Sometimes when I launch it, it seems to load normally, but the entire time while running my mouse cursor seems to stutter as if it's moving it like 10 fps whenever the game window is in the foreground.

I'm running Win10 20H2 and have an NVIDIA card with the latest drivers and the latest updates as of Nov 16.

I think I've found a workaround. When I downgraded from NVIDIA drivers 457.30 to 457.09 (using a clean install), suddenly the game seems to be working properly as expected.

Edit: Since this post, I reinstalled Win10 20H2 from scratch and the latest 457.30 driver, and could not replicate the exact problem. I have some other system stability issues related to graphics though, and am thinking either the driver, some windows updates, or some combo of both is causing problems.

I had the same issue launching today. I am trying some program specific setting Nvidia changes which have reduced but not eliminated the issue:

GEForce GTX 1050 Ti
Driver 457.30

- Shader Cache: Off
- Texture Filtering Quality: Performance
- Vertical sync: On

Initially, FGU was unusuable as it would be black more often than displaying. This reduced it to an occasional flicker.

You may also want to experiment with the FGU setting mentioned in this post: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?56503-FGU-using-GPU-at-almost-100&p=551846&viewfull=1#post551846
