I finally had enough time to figure out some of the basics of ruleset modification, and would like to share what I have done.
In my "Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil" campaign, we are using the spellpoint system, as laid out in Unearthed Arcana as well as in the web SRD (https://www.d20srd.org/). I have added a couple of numberfields on the spell page to keep track of the max and current spellpoints, deleted the preparation widgets, and added a numbercontrol to keep track of the spells cast for each level. The current spellpoints numberfield is updated every time the spells cast fields are modified. I've also put the same fields in the mini-spell list, but there are still some bugs with that part.
You can find a .rar of the ruleset here. (https://students.washington.edu/bread/Spellpoints.rar)
I am still planning on having a single check box for each spell while in preparation mode as long as the caster is not spontaneous. I would also like to have the mini-sheet only show those spells that are prepared.
Let me know what you think!
