View Full Version : Updater randomly freezing

I've tried everything I can thing of to sort this myself, but to no effect. The updater just seems to be stopping at random points while downloading to the current version. I've tried clearing settings, clearing the vault, uninstalling and starting clean, but the same this seems to happen. The updater runs for a while, then just stops. Sometimes it gets as far as updating the updater, and one or two packages, but it never gets further than 3/36. Running on Windows 20H2, which is what worries me, as I tested from my laptop, which has yet to be updated, and it completes OK.
Any advice gratefully received!

Usually this is due to security software on your end. Often it is "Flood Protection" or "QoS" of "Parental Controls" types of settings on your router/modem.
Do not clear your cache or uninstall, as often the above settings only allow so much to be downloaded before blocking further downloads. So clearing the cache or uninstalling resets the counter and what you need to download back. Often times if you can not find the settings, just continuing to do downloads every hour or two results in you getting a complete download. BUT, that's a lot of assumptions.
If you can upload your various logs here, then we can get a better feel for the details and provide more specific information. See link in my signature if needed.

I'd done all the usual bit, like disable firewall settings, DDoS protection, web filters etc - but I would never have thought of the QoS settings!
Good tip - I'd ruled out the router as a cause, as my wife's machine on the same network updated perfectly, but you were spot on.
Many thanks, may your dice be kind to you!
