Looks like Big Sur just released for OS X. I was wondering if it's safe for me to upgrade, or will it break my support with Fantasy Grounds Unity?
Thanks!

I only have one Mac that I use to build releases that is currently on Catalina. I don't want to upgrade, in case it breaks our ability to make builds.
I'll see if anyone else in the company has a Mac they were planning to update; and have them check.
Thanks,

Thanks so much! I'll wait to upgrade until I hear back.

I've upgraded on an older 2015 Macbook Pro, and at a minimum it launches and loads into a campaign. I'm hoping to use it in a game this weekend (as a player).
Edit: Just tried to connect from it to a Windows GM instance via a public cloud connection. That worked, and loaded a character in the campaign as well.

Thanks for testing that! I'm running as a DM, so I'll probably wait a tad longer, but good to know it works fine for players!

Given that it launches, and connected (from a player's perspective), I would expect the DMs side to work fine. Though for me, my DM machine (during my real game) is actually an older iMac (running Mojave, I know it can't run Catalina), so I won't be testing the DMs side on Big Sur anytime soon.

Earlier today I upgraded a macOS Catalina VM (VirtualBox) to macOS Big Sur. I downloaded the .PKG from the website and installed it normally. After putting in username, password and license key, it updated itself and all products like it should. Then, I loaded into a campaign, loaded modules, etc.
It seems to work just as well as it did on Catalina, High Sierra and Mojave.
Since I used a VM, and Big Sur is so new, your mileage may vary, but I wanted to go ahead and let folks know that it looks OK in preliminary tests so far.

We just had one of our support guys upgrade his VM and ran through a bunch of the basics without issue as well.

Wouldn't it be funny if they were the same person? 😏

*LOL* That's too funny!
Hope this doesn't come back to haunt you on your annual review *G*

I... did NOT think of that earlier, and certainly not the way I am now. 😬😆
Luckily MoonWizard has a good sense of humor. 👍🏻

I am having issues with the FGU updater crashing at launch. The Fantasy grounds APP runs fine.

Same here. The Shortcut to start the Updater just opens a window briefly, then exit.
I had to manually go into my Applications/SmiteWorks/Fantasy Grounds/FGUpdaterEngine/ and then start the FGUpdaterEngine from there.
Same issue on a fresh Install as well. Need to start from the folder.

Hello.
I just installed the Demo Version on Mac OS Big Sur. At the end of the initial setup FG Updater wants to fix permissions but fails to do so, with no error description. I already gave FGUpdaterEngine and FantasyGroundUpdater full disk access via security seettings.
Anyone ran into this problem? How can I fix it?
Thanks!

Hey Jevel.
What do you mean by "start from the folder". Because when I try to start the updater from the folder it crashes, too.

Any further update from anyone on this? Our two GMs have Macs so we’re being really cautious about Big Sur at the moment after this thread.

@dasboeh, please redownload and run the latest installer from the web site.
@dbm, we haven't heard of any specific Big Sur errors at this point; and we've had several people say that they have successfully run on Big Sur.

I downloaded the FGU installer yesterday and it has yet to successfully open the Updater. When I run the installer, it gets to the screen that tells me "the installer will run now" but nothing happens. And when I go to the SmiteWorks folder and try to run it manually, I get a brief flash of the Updater before it closes with no indication of an error or other block. (I have run many installs of other software, so I don't think it is the Big Sur security or other standard reasons the software is blocked.)
Wait!!! I went all the way to the "Fantasy Grounds Updater Engine" and that ran okay. Everything is buried in too many folders. (run "FGUpdaterEngine.app" instead of "FantasyGroundsUpdater.app")

Running FantasyGroundsUpdater.app should launch FGUpdaterEngine.app, but before that it checks to see if there is an update for FGUpdaterEngine.app and installs it first. If you manually run FantasyGroundsUpdater.app does nothing happen? There should be a file called FantasyGroundsUpdater.log that might have some information if it's throwing an error.

I've updated to Big Sur now and it is working OK for me. If it makes a difference, the version of FGU I am running was bought directly from Smiteworks rather than via Steam.

What I saw:
* unpacked the FGUWebInstall.pkg and ran through its prompts
* closed the installer and FantasyGroundsUpdater did NOT automatically run
* tried to run FantasyGroundsUpdater.app serveral times by double clicking from the location in the finder /Applications/SmiteWorks/FantasyGrounds/ (specifically, a window popped up for a moment and then closed with no message and no .log file)
* ran FGUpdaterEngine.app and it opened, let me login, etc. It downloaded a bunch of stuff and all seemed to run just fine
* FGU is now on my computer and seems to open and run
