View Full Version : Enhanced Images (Layers) and FGU?

In FGC myself and another DM would extensively use FGC's "Enhanced Images (Layers)" to be able to place Tokens on the "lower" layer (the extension provides 3 layers) that would be untouchable and unmovable by players. These tokens would not interact with normal layer activities (top layer) and so players would not have them interrupt their own usage of the map. These tokens could be things like a boat, a vehicle, a table, a heavy box, a car etc. As a DM I could move them and use them effectively with the layers and move them.

In FGU I don't see a way to put tokens on a particular layer and prevent PCs from interacting with the tokens.

The only solution I see is to add a new layer and stamp a token into that layer at a given position. This isn't a great solution for moving the objects around e.g. moving a ship, shifting a box, driving a car, etc.

Is there a way to do what "Enhanced Images (Layers)" did in FGC, but in FGU?

Do I have to drop each asset into the map as a new layer per asset and manage them that way? e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ibr8cncALsI

If there isn't, how can I request a feature like this?

Tokens only exist in the same space as each other in FGU by design. Image Layers are for placing other objects in the scene.

My suggestion would be to place a layer on the map for the object; then use the Layers mode in the image data control to move the layer when needed.

Thank you for the clarification.

I'll have to use the image layers more and see if it scales without problems for more layers, and if picking layers works just as easily as picking tokens.

Maybe Video #14 in this post can be helpfull to you: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?55797-How-do-I-in-Unity&p=492112#post492112

Yes, Video #14 is what I reference in my original post where you place 1 asset per layer. My point is only that an "asset layer", like that in the Enhanced Images (Layers) extension can hold many assets in the one layer. It's a semantic difference. Does the layer act as a container for many assets or are you required to have a 1:1 asset:layer design.

Each asset creates an own layer, but you can create folders for layers and group layers in that way. All operations done on that folder (changing colour, rotation, position etc.) are then done on all things simultaneously as if they would be one identity, but selecting each separate entity in the folder leads to that you can manipulate them separately :) So, think of the layer folders as the container you speak of (like the layers in enhanced images), and all the layers in it are the separate assets (like the tokens of said extension) :) So, somehow yes to both of your questions :D (pressing shift while selecting several layers also leads to that you select multiple layers at once by the way, just as extra info, not related to the question :D )

Kelrugem, Thanks for the comments, I appreciate the comments regarding the folder layer. I didn't understand that operations on the folder applied to all the child layers. I'll have to investigate that!
