As the title says the Fantasy Grounds Updater does not have write access to either the application or data directory. I just downloaded the FGUWebInstaller for the first time and this window pops up after starting the FGUpdaterEngine.

Welcome to FG.

You'll need to add the permissions manually if FG wasn't able to set it. Make sure first of all that you have FG whitelisted in your antivirus (since many AVs seem to reset the permissions). Find the FG Data folder (default is users/username/AppData/Roaming/Smiteworks) and right click on it select Properties > Security and then make sure that all read/write permissions are allowed for all users.

You may also need to do the same for the installation directory (default is ProgramFiles/Smiteworks).

This unsatisfactory. FG Updater fails to set these permissions on systems with only Windows Defender active, which likely is the vast majority of systems. It failed on my W10 2004 Defender laptop, but succeeded on my W10 1903 Symantec desktop.

This week I told my players that we will try to switch to Unity, but that we need to get them through the installation woes first. In practice this means that I do a 1:1 session with everyone who has problems with installation to help them set this up.

I can to some checks to see if the Windows version plays a role, if anyone is interested!?
