Ahoi.

Every time I close FGU while its window is maximized next time it opens smaller than maximized.

Yes, FGU does not support maximized mode right now. It's on our list to look at.

Don't you mean fullscreen mode maybe? I can use the maximize button just fine, only keeping the title-bar. But once I restart FGU it switches back to windowed mode at a size slightly smaller than my screensize (width and height).

We have no control over the window titlebar added to the window; so the maximize button is the same as full screen right now. We know that full screen / maximize is not where we would like it to be, but ran into some challenges when initially implemented. Since it's really a single extra button press after launching, it hasn't been a high priority item to address yet.

Well then here is the workaround for those not wanting to press that button every time they start FGU:

Right-click on FGU icon -> Properties -> Run: -> change from "Normal" to "Maximized"

Only drawback still present: when you restore the window back to normal via button it will still restore to the arbitrary big size (screen size minus some pixels width/height).

A note to that: One should to test this first :) For me personally it can lead to that FGU looks very distorted for some time :)

Yeah, that is right; once it was distorted still after starting the campaign though, so, I figured I rather press the maximize button instead every time than waiting for the distortion to go :D

No distortion here.

I would assume the distortion is due to Windows display scaling, as I run >100% display scaling.
EDIT: it only worked once and now it's back >.<

I tried both 124% (system wide XP style scaling, similar to "Application") and 125% (system wide "System" scaling) and both did not cause distortion unless I specifically overrode FGU to use the "System (Enhanced)" method. In the case of the latter it was not so much distortion, but the content staying at 100% in the upper left corner while the window size itself was scaled.

I had the "override high DPI scaling behavior" set to Application. Turning that off fixed the issue :)
I had turned that on months and months ago when FG was having issues with scaling/clarity and forgot about it.

EDIT: it was fixed briefly but came back so it must have been a fluke

Which goes to show that "Application" and the old XP style scaling (factors between 101-124%) are not the very same, even though they are similar in most results.

This happens in the OS X version as well so "XP style" definitely isn't an option over here. "Application UI Scale" in the settings is some help but really doesn't do a heck of a lot.

On the other hand, I can finally fit my sheet, the combat tracker, and a map all on the window without overlapping. ;)

I just noticed that the window is not smaller, it starts at the proper size for a maximized window, but is shifted down and right for several pixels. The properties workaround always gets overwritten by updates, so I would like to see a fix to the window position being shifted.
