I am missing a lot the button down effect on the aforementioned buttons in Unity. All rulesets have them, please bring this back? :)

I have a button down effect; either I am looking at a different button, or that actually got fixed with the most recent update :) EDIT: Ah, you mean the sidebar buttons, indeed, there is no button down effect (I thought you speak about the new arrow buttons in the asset view)

The sidebar buttons have to be defined with an up and a down button graphic, if you want them to appear differently when depressed. Not all rulesets do that.
For example, CoreRPG has a depressed state to the sidebar buttons.

I do have on all my rulesets graphics for button and button down state. But in Unity this is not taken into account. I believe this is bug.

I suspect Moon is going to ask if you can provide a simple extension or ruleset that demonstrates this issue so he can quickly identify the issue. I would also suggest you check CoreRPG to see the code he is using there and see if you are using the same calls.
I assume you know all that, but it doesn't hurt to restate it :)

It's working in CoreRPG and 5E; so it seems like something isn't being set up correctly based on what CoreRPG sidebar scripts are expecting, or they're being overriden.
An example is always helpful...

Moon, I do see button down on CoreRPG, but in 5E it is very subtle and I only see it on menu buttons that are on the right column. When their are two columns of buttons, the left column I don't see any depress.

Core RPG Asset/Library don't have the "pressed effect", as also in CoC 7e and everything that is derived from Core.

Hmm, appears to be something specific to FGU. I was bouncing between FGC and FGU this morning with the releases. I'll have a look.
