Modifier buttons next to the dice

I was wondering if there's a way to add buttons next to the dice for the modifiers like lesser cover, cover, flatfoot, etc. I'm used to having those buttons in the Starfinder and 5E rulesets and i kinda miss having them.

I know I can open the +/- menu to have them all, but i like the shortcut of activating them next to the dice.

You can drag/drop any modifier button to the hot key bar at the bottom of the FG window. You can’t put anything on the desktop itself without modifying code (writing an extension).

How would I go about writing an extension for that? Any ressources I can take a look at to figure it out? I've got a bit of coding experience, but i've never done anything for FG.
