I was wondering whether anyone had a better idea than what I'm currently using to highlight an area on my battle map as affect by an area-of-attack...

At the moment, I unlock the map and use the drawing tool to create a circle on my grid. This is the area affected by, for example, difficult terrain due to a spell.

This is cumbersome, as drawing a circle from a point in a '20-foot radius' on my grid isn't easy, nor is free-handing a circle as it just looks messy.

Is there any better way to pick a point on a grid and have it shade out the affected area? Can I colours in squares on the grid in a translucent, darker colour perhaps?

Use Quick Pointers or even regular Pointers.

Quick Pointers are access with a left-right mouse combo and modified by CTRL, ALT, SHIFT.

Pointers are access by the right mouse menu.

Good Day WinterSoldier7 :)
And keep in mind if you use the quick pointer it will only allow you to have one at a time. If you need multiple pointers you need to right click go to about 11 o'clock then select the shape and draw. :)

Thank you, both! That nails it, the exact answer I was looking for.

Much appreciated.
