View Full Version : Confusion About Prepared Spells in 5e

My apologies if this isn't the correct place on the forum for this inquiry, but I've been having difficulty with FG not updating the number of spells my players' spellcasters can prepare. It seems like the initial number at 1st level is correct, but when they raise, it doesn't increase automatically as the rest of the character does. I have to go in and manually adjust the number, which is fine, but seems odd to me when the rest of the leveling is automated. Does anyone else have this issue?

MOD: Moved to 5E Forum for best visibility

Welcome to the forums :)

First, when leveling up, are your players dragging and dropping the class onto their character sheet to level up or are they adjusting the level number? Method 1 will update the number of spells and automatically add other things, method 2 will not automate .

If that's not the issue, can you show us screen shots? As well are you/they looking at which mode on the actions tab? (Standard, Preparation, or Combat)

EDIT: See Mr' Z's response below, I totally missed this was about spell preparation and not spell slots.

FG doesn’t know or care how many spells a spellcaster can prepare, it only handles spell slots. It know the number of spell slots per level for each caster class and if you level up properly via drag and drop then it will show the correct number of slots.

Beyond that FG will allow a player to add any number of spells into their actions tab and also allow them to prepare any number of those via preparation mode.

Given the above are you really talking about the number of spell slots? If so then if the correct number of slots isn’t correct then the character hasn’t been levelled up properly.
