How to change weapon number?

How does one go about changing the numbers of weapons on the Combat Tab? These numbers are used by the powers tab to designate what weapon the player is using. Becomes tedious to always go to the Combat Tab and look for the new number a weapon is. It seems like the weapon number is randomly generated. This happens when getting a new weapon or removing a weapon from the inventory.

It looks like the code is using a fill lowest ordering scheme as weapons are added. There's no mechanism in the ruleset to change the number assigned.
