Possible Dumb Question - How do I create a custom token?

If my players have created character art, how can I take that image and turn it into a token they can use on their sheets and in tokens on maps?

Depends some of the ruleset, but for example in 5E when a character assigns a portrait to their PC, FG will automatically create a matching token.

But, you can also give a character a different token. You can create a token from a image using something like tokentool or tokenstamp (or Gimp, etc). Then you can import the token into FGU and assign to the character as detailed in the wiki;

How do I use a piece of a graphic as a custom brush to paint a map with.

I've read the section.

I've grabbed an image

I can use the included brushes

But all I seem to end up with is a small image as a separate map.
FGU doesn't allow me to drop this into the graphics tool section of the paint layer, nor can I drop it into the existing brushes

its a PNG file

Not sure what I'm missing.

Hi, came in to figure out the token thing, and was hopeful when i read your answer. however one of my players uploaded art, and while that art is in the token space, it does NOT place the token on the map when i drag it. I tested it with an npc, and their token worked just fine. What could be the problem on my end?

Are you dragging the token from the character sheet or from the combat tracker? Dragging PC tokens from the character sheet doesn't work, but doing so from the combat tracker does.

Please also note that if you are dragging the token from the NPC's character sheet it won't be linked to anything on the combat tracker and players will be able to move the token around (amongst other things).

You don't place tokens directly on a map; all PC or NPC tokens should be placed on the map via the Combat Tracker. Having said that you can just drag a token from assets and put it on the map.
