I do not currently own a Fantasy Grounds license. I am betting on the idea that FGU will be on Steam at some point and be 50% off during a summer or winter sale. I’m wondering if I can buy adventure modules and core rule books on Steam now (while they are 35% off) and then use them when I eventually buy FGU during a steam sale several months from now. Just trying to spread out my purchases. Setting aside anyone’s warnings that “There is no guarantee FGU will be discounted on Steam in the future” (that’s a risk I’m willing to take), could I buy modules for FGC on Steam NOW (cheaper than the Fantasy Grounds sale prices) and have them work in FGU at a later date?

Yes you can do that.

Content you buy on Steam or FG’s website Will transfer between both as it ultimately is FG’s backend that will keep track of what your account is entitled too. With that said, I believe that Steam will not let you buy “DLC” for a program without owning it. So you would have to buy at least a FGC Standard license to purchase any of the modules on Steam. I have not tried this myself (trying to buy content without owning the software on Steam) but have read that on the boards here previously.
