Why do portraits keep disappearing?

I create a bunch of sample characters and assign them portraits (from ppk files in my portaits folder).

But most of the time (but not all the time!) when I close and reopen a campaign using these portraits, they still appear in the Tokens space for the character, but not the portrait.

I assume there is some sort of localization setting, but how can I keep from having to reselect the portrait pic every time?

Portraits aren't passed when you use the pregenerated character upload functionality, or when you export and import PC XML. This is because portraits don't have direct links to images (but tokens do) and including the portrait image file with an exported PC could be infringing on some intellectual property rights/copyright.

You see the token because that is a reference to the local token module - if you export the PC and the person doesn't have the same module you wouldn't see the token.

So, short answer - portraits aren't included when you import a PC into a campaign.
