Really new user: NPC and Encounter Windows

Good Morning Y'all,

I am working through the tutorials and have run into something that is bugging me. Just a little backstory: I have purchased MM, PHB, and others.

How do I make it so either the NPC window or the encounter window are empty until I want to put something in it? On that point, the item window would be good too.

I am not sure if I am wanting to make FGU do something it is not supposed to, but it seems like it would be much easier to 'control' and find things.

The CT is always empty until you put something in it.
Also any NPCs you add are not shown to the players until you click the eye

The NPCs you could use the drop down and change the group to New (or create a new group) and it wont show any NPCs until you create or copy some.

If what damned has said doesn't clear things up for you, please post screen shots of the "NPC window or the encounter window" so we can be sure what you are referring to. Thanks!
