View Full Version : Connection test failed....AGAIN

I swear this happens to me once a month. For no apparent reason FGC is failing a connection test again. We played 3 days ago, nothing has changed on my machine. Normally when this happens I just restart my PC and it works but not this time. I have a static ip I pay for to eliminate this, my firewall rules on my eero router have not changed. My windows network is set to private, I even ran the trace route via cmd and it went through fine but no one can connect to my game and the test fails. I restarted my router as well, I'm out of ideas my players are sitting around frustrated just like me.

If I didn't have over $600 into this program i would drop it, this happens at least twice a month. Any help would be appreciated, I have FGU but we haven't used it yet because I don't want my players to have to pay for it.

Help please.

More than 1000 things change on your computer every minute.

Most likely your LAN IP has changed and your port forward is now no longer pointing at the right IP.

If you cannot work through it please answer the 8 questions in the Fantasy Grounds Connections Explained thread. Preferably with screenshots.

Nothing has changes that I can see but I re-added a port forwarding rule into my eero router with my PC's LAM address and still nothing.

2. 172.87

3. Wired for this PC, obviously I have wireless devices in the house but not for gaming.

4. 35165

5. I have plain old windows defender and malware bytes and I have not set any exceptions in either but I see the following:

6. Tracing route to dns.google [8.8.8.8]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.4.1
2 2 ms 1 ms 2 ms 10.211.32.1
3 51 ms 30 ms 32 ms 10.192.110.201
4 9 ms 9 ms 10 ms 69.174.129.154
5 9 ms 10 ms 9 ms 69.174.129.151
6 13 ms 13 ms 15 ms 10.192.200.15
7 13 ms 15 ms 13 ms 74.125.118.160
8 13 ms 14 ms 14 ms 108.170.244.1
9 15 ms 15 ms 13 ms 108.170.238.89
10 12 ms 13 ms 14 ms dns.google [8.8.8.8]

Trace complete

7. Honestly I've never needed a port forwarding rule with my eero router since getting it, but when it didn't work I went into the router via the phone app. Went to port forwarding, choose my PC at the ip listed above and set a port forwarding rule for TCP 1802.

8. I don't even know what these are so I doubt I have them.

Hops 1 (expected), 2, 3, 6 are all private network hops.
Can you verify that your ROUTER has the same WAN IP as what FG sees it as?

the eero is accessed through my phone but this is what I see.

Great. That looks ok. Port Forward should be possible.
Can you show the Port Forwarding settings too.

I appreciate the help and I'm attaching images from my phone. The eero router is pretty spare in what I can do but as I mentioned this has worked without me doing anything. This just stopped working yesterday for no apparent reason.

Who is your internet provider? There is a thread on the forums here about Comcast and how their Advanced Security gets turned on and starts "protecting" you for port forwarding setups you have designated. it is a real PITA because every 30 days you have to go back and approve it again for 30 days (just had it happen again to me right as a game started and one player started to get in and download updated extensions and then got kicked out as the 30 day timer expired).

Is the port forwarding for IPv4 or IPv6?

It looks like all you have is an IPv6 firewall rule. FG Classic uses IPv4 only.

Didn't notice there were 2 sections let me add one and try it.

Ok that worked!

My question is why all of the sudden after 11 months did I need to add this rule to my router?

Impossible to be certain, but your ISP probably pushed an update to your router or changed something.

Thanks everyone for the help.

I've scheduled a time this afternoon to test FGU with one of my players since I have an Ultimate License. Last night when we couldn't get FGC to work I fired up the game on FGU but he claims he couldn't find my session so idk what I did wrong.
