Unmasking issues

Hi all, I'm having some issue with unmasking. Browsing the forum, I read that I can freehand unmask by holding the shift key while left clicking.
I'm doing that but I keep drawing squares.

Am I doing something wrong?

I'm running the latest version of FGU

I think it is on Alt :) (the typical hotkeys are often ctrl, shift, alt or combinations of them :) )
