I'm UTC +2, so I'm one hour in front of you fine folks from the UK.

Technically, I'm usually free whenever, apart from Wednesday and Saturday. I'd love to see how a pro handles FG SWADE, as I am relatively new to the ruleset. As for setting: I like cyberpunk, post-apo, and scifi, but I'm happy to just be a part of the game.

If we wanna decide on a topic together (I'd also be totally fine with being surprised), there's something I'd like to suggest. I recently saw a podcast from the German SWADE publisher (Ulisses), where they showed an interesting procedure to generate a setting in three (and a half-ish) steps:

Everyone names three words that can contribute to a setting, be it a theme, a topic, a factor like a race, a potential BBEG, or whatever. Words cannot be double, and shouldn't be too similar. Write them all up.
Everyone names one word from the list they'd like to banish. Strike those out. They are the outruled.
Everyone name one word they want to highlight. Mark them. They're the primaries.


The terms you didn't highlight or rule out stay as secondaries. That leaves you with X primary terms and X secondary terms, where X is the number of participants. Use them to specify your setting. It must include all primaries, may include any number of secondaries, and must exclude all outruled. You probably already thought loudly, proposed, and talked about the setting while coming up with the terms, so this is the half-ish step. In the end, you should have one sentence answers to all of the three following questions:

Who are the characters?
What do they try to achieve?
What or who stands in their way?


That way you have enough framework to not end up in a void or simulation, but enough freedom to bring yourself in.
In the first example they generated the following setting:

They play mecha-toys in a toyshop, that have come to live due to a crashed UFO.
They seek to find artifacts from the crash site.
They are opposed by the plush bears.

That turned into a hilarious game session btw. On the second run, they made a gritty post-apo setting, which shows that it doesn't have to end in slapstick.

Assuming Grendel111111 plays Skylar, then Simon Knight would work, he's a Guardian of Banshee, (in some ways a Paladin but without the alignment restrictions and the fact he's died once already).

Elsa Walker is a melee fighter with a badge and a sharp tongue (probably influenced by the fact Ive Benn re-watching Buffy lately)

Elliot has been bagged by Ikael, Riley is a more dedicated support character more thinker than warrior.

Just wanted to put my name forward in case you get the urge to run another one-shot sometime.

I have had a FGC standard license for well over a decade ... (just checked the forums for posts under a username that I lost because I no longer have the email address associated with it and found a message from back in 2006 :) ). Yet in all that time I have never done anything more with it than fire it up every now and again and wonder what it would be like to use it in anger. Got enthused again with the FGU kickstarter but couldn't convince my colleagues it was worth using. So one silver lining to the otherwise terrible world situation is that I have finally got a 5e campaign going and everyone seems to be enjoying it ... we are even looking to run two sessions this week.

However, it looks like I am pigeon-holed to be the GM for the foreseeable future being the only one of my group that has put money into this, lol.

I would love to join a game run by a very experienced GM and get a real feel for how a game runs when the GM is not constantly trying to remember how everything works just in time to teach my players :D. I am also interested in learning more about SWADE. I have the ruleset and a few of the settings but got swayed by the seemingly more advanced automation of 5e for my group.

I gather from this thread that you have converted the Deadlands Lost Colony setting to Fantasy Grounds. Any idea on when it might be available to buy? (I think I saw a thread where you mentioned you had passed it to SmiteWorks for final QA but may have got things mixed up).

Anyway, sorry for the ramble. Fantasy Grounds has rekindled my love of RPGs and I would love to get all the playtime I can.

I can be available most weekday evenings ... I just need a little notice to clear things with my family. I can also manage most weekday lunch-times 12 until 2i-sh BST ... again with a bit of notice. I do have lunch-time sessions on Wednesday and Friday this week with my work colleagues. Weekends are a bit more tricky as family life tends to get in the way a lot more then. If needs be I could probably swing a morning some time on a work day, I would need to check that there was no clash with any meetings first though.

Just now realised I have never tried connecting to a remote copy of FGC. Thought I better try it. So hope you don’t mind doswelk but I tried connecting using the phrase on the calendar. It worked a treat! I loaded the 50 Fathoms (SWADE) player module and the SWADE player module. Is that all we need? I am really looking forward to tomorrow... leave is booked ... family clearance given ... cannot wait.

Discord should be fine. I run a channel for my work colleagues when we play 5e using FGU. Had 6 1 to 2 hour lunchtime sessions so far ... great fun. Today is the first time we have had any real issues though. One of my players kept disconnecting and having to be kicked before he could rejoin. On one occasion it took my host session down as well :( ... I have now learned that binding /save to F1 and use it liberally is a good idea :D

FG does /save automatically in the background every 5 minutes, in case you weren't aware.

I agree. Thank you, Doswelk. I really enjoyed this morning. I learned a lot about running a game from you that I will definitely carry forward into my own campaign. The biggest eye-opener for me was just how much polishing is still needed for Unity to become as slick as Classic. Just being able to lock tokens so that you can maintain some control over player movement during combat is probably worth more to me as a feature than line of sight tbh. I am now seriously considering whether it is worth upgrading my Classic license from standard to ultimate or whether I subscribe to FGC ultimate for a few months until Unity releases. I guess we still don’t have a realistic release date yet, do we?

The barbarian raged with anger. With no one left to fight he ran off into the next room like an animal. Right into a trap which split the party. Lets not mention the snakes !
Then with the curious Goblin rushing off in one direction. Lem the singing bard took a wander off to look a nice art work. Which suddely came alive and tryed to eat him. Just as the party was suprised 40 feet away !
With line of sight broken between the party. The wizard was left to fight a desperate rear guard action by himself. To the death. Lem is still writing songs about him !

Mean while those on offical Pathfinder Rules are still on round 1.:p

Many thanks for running these, the few I've been lucky enough to play in have been an absolute riot.

Very much enjoyed the introduction to SWADE as a system, too.

I've always been a bit skeptical of generic rule systems because I think they go too rules-heavy. SWADE seems to get that balance just right, especially for fast and furious one-offs. The fantasy one didn't feel at all like the superhero one, despite using the same system. Gearing up to run my first SWADE scenario as a result!

Sounds great! I will do my best to join. My 3 year-old boy gets us up by 7a anyway and that looks like it starts at 8a CDT.
