Death from Below

So my current version is 3.3.9 Ultimate
I run the updater, which i can see says the updater version is 3.3.8
The original screen pops up and it says I am on now on version 3.3.10 ultimate.
If I just immediately launch into joining a game, I'm updated and it works fine. BUT if I close it and come back, it says I'm back to the older version. If I actually play out the game i joined, and then close it and later come back in again, I am once again on the old version.
In other words, the update isn't "sticking". What am I doing wrong?
