I just created a character in FGU using options from 5e Xanathar's guide which I purchased but the character's Abilities are not implemented in a meaningful and effective way. I found this video showing how to do this manually but I spend $$ buying the FGU adaptation of XGtE so i expect to NOT have to make these kinds of manual implementations. https://youtu.be/e71fqSKBlpc It turns out there is a whole series of videos about how to manually implement effects of XGtE in FGU, which seems ridiculous... this is what we paid for when we bought FGU + paid for the 5 manuals and XGtE so that we wouldn't have to manually have to figure out how to implement this stuff.

The effects system is there so that you can create effects for things which aren't built in. Not everything is built in since it would take a stupendous amount of development time. If the effects system wasn't there you'd have no automation possibilities at all.

I understand your frustrations with not having your expectations met. Unfortunately, your expectations do not meet with what FG provides. If you would like the developers to consider adding such capabilities, add your idea to the Wish List (https://fg2app.idea.informer.com/).

Reviewing the list, you will find that no one (that I can find) has made the suggestion you are requesting.

You will find 2 similar suggestions, one for spells to parse written effects, which if you read through is from some years ago and has been implemented with 5E Spells. https://fg2app.idea.informer.com/proj/?ia=50690

And item effects, which has been partially implemented in 5E. https://fg2app.idea.informer.com/proj/?ia=54565

Maybe your idea will get enough votes and the devs will see the value in it that you do. Everything they implement means their is something else that doesn't get implemented because their are only so many hours in a day.

Yeah, the amount of automation that is "built-in" vs. possible has definitely been discussed before. A previous discussion focused on items (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?53132-Ruleset-Automation), but I believe at that time I put in my $0.02 that improved ruleset automation should be a goal for the software. So, while I didn't make a wishlist item for the topic then, I'd like to point out that the OP isn't alone in thinking this is an issue.
