View Full Version : Dual Monitor Stretching

I know there was a recent thread locked about dual monitor support. This is just a simple question.

I decided to hook up another monitor and stretched the FG classic frame across both monitors and it works well. The extra room is quite nice. However, I can't extend the full horizontal span. I can stretch from the far left of the first monitor to about 2/3 across the second monitor. It seems the window frame has a maximum span.

It isn't a big deal, but was wondering if anyone else had this problem and a workaround.

Both monitors are the same resolution (2560x1440), though the secondary monitor is smaller size.

Thanks

I'm running on a 4K monitor and, even with that amount of usable area, when running a game I find I can always use more. It's a corollary to the old adage:

The time required to do a job always expands to fill the time allotted.

Anyway, for real estate expansion I have, heretofore, relied on dexpot (multiple desktops) but, now I'm retired and my Work machine, which sits adjacent to my RPG machine, and which also sports a 4K display, has been impressed into service. This is going to be very helpful, although my implementation is sub-optimal (gonna have to upgrade my RPG rig's GPU from a gtx-1050ti to a gtx-1650 to get a second Displayport output for full bandwidth - even though it doesn't have to deliver high framerates, like for video gaming, the 1050's HDMI output still doesn't cut it.)

So... back to the question at hand: 2 x 4K displays, running as an extended desktop, allows me to extend the FGC window edge-to-edge, no problem. Huzzah!

Cheers,

This is an interesting phenomena. I haven't ever used two monitors at home because my primary is sufficient and I mostly just use it for gaming. However, I have tried with other applications:

NotePad: Fully extends
Word: Fully extends
Gimp: Fully extends
WordPad: DOES NOT fully extend. It has the same span as Fantasy Grounds.

As far as I know both of my monitors are the same aspect ratio. Same resolution for sure. Primary is 144 HZ, secondary is 60Hz. Primary is 27", secondary is 23. Primary is G-sync, secondary is not. Nvidia graphics card with two ports.

So, I don't know what the problem is but obviously isn't specific to Fantasy Grounds.

don’t know what your os is, but this may apply and work for you:

on mac, you would set in system prefs to turn off the preference that allows each monitor to have its own separate work space, ie each has its own top menu etc (and this looks like mirroring).

once disabled, log out and back in, the desktop would have one top menu on the one “main” monitor. relaunch fg and flex window across monitor to see if that works.

also something more obvious: you may need to check and set monitor positions correctly, ie left and right — if you’re trying to stretch a window past the right edge on a monitor that’s physically on the left but workspace is meant to be on the right, that’s obviously not gonna work :-D

just throwing out there some troubleshooting ideas. good luck.
