I am running an Adventurers League module and in it is an "active" hazard that occurs once every round at initiative order 20.

Is there a way to automate that initiative as the hazard is added to the Combat Tracker?

As per LordEntrails excellent module making best practices guidelines: I have constructed an hazard NPC and added that NPC to the Encounter along with the other NPCs so that when the Encounter is added to the Combat Tracker the Hazard is added also. I'd like it's initiative to be 20 when it gets added to the Combat Tracker.

There are a lot of imaginative DMs out there, maybe someone has a trick for doing this that is eluding me?

There is no automation to have a fixed initiative applied on encounter add; or on initiative reroll in general.

Yep, wish their was. But I've never added it to the wishlist so can't complain :)

I was looking for the same thing a few weeks ago. Couldn't find anything. Fortunately, unless you roll init every round, it's not a big deal. Just gotta set it once.

Can't you give it an effect which bumps it's initiative score? Say INIT:100 or something like that.

For some reason, 5e wants these effects at initative 20, losing ties.

I’d thought about something like this, but with ability scores, something ridiculously high. But I need exactly 20. (And I like variable initiatives for the NPCs.)

I know, I know, I want to much! :) Thanks JohnD.

This simplest way I know to do this is type /mod 19.5 and drag the "20" that loses ties down to a hot key then just drag it up from the hot key to the initiative for the lair action.

That's a pretty good idea. I normally set it manually to 19.5 But if I get into an area with a lot of these effects, definitely worth using a shortcut like t this. Thanks!
