First time FGU User

Like many other, due to COVID quarantine we're moving our game online. I bought the lifetime Ultra (forget the name) membership and several books to make a new campaign. We spent about an hour and a half trying to get into the same game. Had everyone download unity, update, still couldn't find my game with the DM name, password, game name, etc. A couple could but kept getting error messages about it and 1 just strait up couldn't find it. I really like the idea of Fantasy Grounds but is this lack of connectability a habitual problem with FGU? User Error? Should I just move over to regular FG?

I'm sure a lot of this is really stupid stuff as we learn a new program but it was just really frustrating setting up this week 0 and basically quitting the attempt 2 hours in.

Hello Jmuckenthaler, from what I understand FGU has some issues with connectivity (especially with the pandemic). FGU is also still in BETA and is always getting optimized with each update. I heard that this is not an uncommon issue. Bear in mind that this could be that the only ones that mention this are the ones having trouble and there isn't really an issue overall; like the squeaky wheel getting the oil type of thing. I am relatively new so take this with a grain of salt.

From my experience most connection issues can get solved. But I understand it can be frustrating.

So some additional hints:
Disable ANY extension you do not absolutely need for your game. If you don't know what it actually does, disable it. Do not enable more than one theme, try without any theme first. Don't activate too many decals, try without decals first.
You enable/disable extensions in the extensions list right before you start your game as the GM.

Try to run as "Cloud" and "Public" game without any password. You can later try to change to private or password, first make sure it works at all. Your players should be able to find the game in the lobby, listed under your FG account name and the campaign name you gave it. The FG account name is the one you use to login to the forum and in the FG settings. It should also be shown in the upper left of your FGU start screen.

Make sure everybody who wants to join your game is on the same FGU version. The version is shown in the upper right and will currently be something like "v4.0.0 <FREE/STANDARD/ULTIMATE> (<DATE>)". The date is the important part, FGU currently always reports as 4.0.0.
On the GM side it should either show "ULTIMATE" in the version or all of you need to be on standard!
