I have purchased the CoC 7E rule set.

Do I also need the investigator's handbook to play CoC solo (on FG)?

I played CoC 40 years ago and cannot believe how this has developed.

CoC being investigative will be hard to do Solo however there is a choose your adventure style module (I think its released) for FG

No - you dont need the Investigators Handbook.

That is the module that I bought 'Alone against the dark'. There is also a solo investigators handbook (choose your adventure style).
