post views -- what does it mean?

hi. not sure where to post this, but this room seems right...

can anyone tell me what the number of "views" (next to "replies") on any particular fg post actually count?

does it tally up only views from first-time new clicks, or does it count up any view regardless if the same viewer has clicked and viewed again and again, repeated visits?

does it tally my view (i.e. the original poster) once or at every click?

I think it records any view of the post by anyone at any time.

Edit: I have viewed this post three times now and it is recording three views.

haha (edit): now 3, but only because i just viewed it?
(edit) i saw 1 view at posting; you visited 3 times and saw 3 views; i have revisited 3 times (after your 3) to make these edits and still see 3 views.

(edit) anyway, i don't think it records my own revisits.

I think that every time when for someone the thread changes from "Unread" to "read" by reading the posts then the counter increases by one :) So, after each new post someone looking in the thread can increase the counter although that person may already have increased the counter before (but just a guess after observing how big the number of views for very large threads is while the number is not increasing when I click more than once on the thread and there are no new posts) :)
