View Full Version : Can LFG get a sub-forum for everything not 5e? Other games need more exposure.

I think its time to give 5e its own lfg/lfp forum. Posts for non 5e games rarely stay long on the first few pages of lfg/lfp and I think it would drive popularity and ease of organization if they had their own sub-forum to coalesce around.

I have tried many times over the last couple of years to get on here and find non 5e games to join only to find I missed a post or replied to late etc.

Edit: I was thinking only a single sub forum for ALL other non 5e games. Try to keep the non 5e players all in one area to get maximum exposure to varying groups and games.

I tend to agree here... :)

I agree, this would be great for discovery of non-5e games. It would also be consistent with the Fantasy Grounds Discord server, which splits LFG into "5e" and "other".

I like this idea. And not knowing how many sub-forums Smiteworks would be on board with, it is hard to search out games in some time zones. Perhaps a sub-forum for the 3 most common, North/South America, Europe and East Asia/Downunder could make it easier for people in the latter two to connect up to games in the time frames they need to find.

Honestly, I see any forum re-organization is of only a limited and short term help. Not that such might not be worth doing, but I'm hoping for a much more comprehensive solution in the future.

As for organizing sub-forums by geographical zones/regions, imo such would be folly. Take the simple issue where if I (someone in North America) were looking for a game on Saturday morning, then I would have to look in Asia? Just use UTC offsets in the title and people are smart enough to figure things out.

So, I could see organization similar to the Discord channel setup, that would provide consistency :)

A 5E / other split is a really good idea.

i tend to think the other way.
More than half of the games run are 5E.
Most new players that come here (in my non scientific estimation) are seeking 5E and many arent finding it just because there are more players than GMs.
Having your game that is available in front of the 5E player eyes might snag some of them... not a lot, but some of them...

I do like the discord layout quite a bit better. It's more clear whom is looking for whom, but I would make the rule that if you aren't in the 5e ones you MUST put the ruleset, day and time in the title (e.g. [SFRPG] Looking for 3 players Wed 2100 (-6 UTC)). If you are in the 5e forum, just the day and time must be there...

Having a forums layout similar to the "Armory" wouldn't be bad IMO.

A sub-forum for each category. 5E, AD&D, Classic D&D, Savage Worlds, etc...

But that's just me. I like having categories specific to a topic, makes it easier to find what I'm after. As others have mentioned having everything in one pile... things get lost.

I like that better than the discord layout, but would one parent level for LFG and one for LFP with the same subgroups...

That's a good point. Ultimately, there should probably be a database backed game finder that allows users to search and filter by game system, time, etc. Similar to certain other VTTs... ;)
