View Full Version : Starfinder Ship Combat moving to main code

It has been a long process and looks like Ship Combat has now come to Starfinder. The code appears to have merged with the Live version and would ask to place all further bugs or suggestions into the main bug thread. I will be monitoring that thread moving forward.

If you are still using the Test server version and wish to revert back, please visit the dashboard for Fantasy Grounds and selecting the settings button next to 'Check Updates'. This will open a new window that will contain the various settings for Fantasy Grounds. Near the bottom in the 'Updates' section will have the mode your Fantasy Grounds is currently running. In most cases, this will have Live selected. If Live is selected you may exit and have the latest Live build of Starfinder. If Test is selected, then choose live and hit 'OK', and this will bring you to the update screen. Continue by pressing the Update button to begin updating your code to the Test Server code to allow use of it in your games. Please remember to turn off the extension before use. The extension is no longer needed.

I just want to again thank everyone who helped and your patience. Enjoy and have fun!

Thank you for your months of hard work adding this key feature to the Starfinder Ruleset!

Don't be like me and switch to the test server and also load the SFSC.ext. I was having all kinds of problems until I realized my error and reloaded without the extension. :)

Thanks Ulric. Forgot to mention to turn off the extension! I will add it to the first post.

Do all players need to be on the test server, or just the GM?

Just the GM to download that version.

Really looks good, but I am running into an issue getting started.

We created the ship as specified in the instructions but are running into an issue on step 9: "The user who builds the starship should add their own PC as the captain role".

We've tried everything we can think of to get this to work, and cannot manage it. The ship also will not drag onto the party sheet ship tab which also seems like an issue.

I have no idea what we are missing here. Any ideas?

Thanks!!

You need to be using the test server or the ext to use Starship combat. If you are not using one of those two things then you can build a ship but you can not set crew roles nor can you use the starship combat tracker. Also it doesn't matter who built the ship when setting crew roles.

I am using the test server, and have the starship combat extension disabled.

I believe you might be referring to the dialog box that appears when you first create a new PC ship. If so, that list of steps are not completly correct. It will be updated once the clean up of the sheet is done. I would recommend once you have finished setting up the systems and what not on the ship, drag the link from the master index to the partysheet ship tab. This should populate the ship there and the allow adding crew. Same for combat tracker as well.

Report back if this is not successful.

Thanks for the response. I'm not totally sure what you mean by the master index. Do you mean the PC Ships dialog:
31286

If so, I am able to drag from there into the ship combat tracker, but unable to drag into the party sheet:
31287

There are no errors or anything, just silently does nothing.

Thanks!

Good catch, I double checked the functionality. It was sadly not dropping as intended. I found the bug and pushed the update. May take some time to get pushed to Test server. Thanks for your patience.

can't seem to setup crew with or without the extension installed.. are there any instructions on this new extension to help me figure this out?

EDIT: Fixed.. switched to Test, and downloaded the Test version of FG.. was able to set characters to rolls.. reverted back to Live.. still able to move characters and assign rolls..

I am about to start running the dead suns AP, I can't figure out how to give my players access to the ships from the campaign. I have tried loading them in every way I can think of but I can't get any pre-made ship to move into the party sheet or PC ships. I have also tried building the ships myself but they don't follow the correct rules for ship building so I am also running into problems there, any suggestions?

I would honestly need to see what you are doing to give specific suggestions. Try these steps and see if they help. The one thing it does sound like you are doing is drag n dropping Spaceships to the PC Ship sheet. If so, don't, they will only accept frames and not other ships.

I am running Dead Sun AP 1 and I had to build the Hippocampus as a PC ship to use the new Starship Combat. The ship that came with the AP will not work. Here is a screenshot of the PC ship I built and the crew tab.

I am not having problems with ships that I have created, I made my PC a starting ship to test everything out and it works fine. In the adventure path (Incident at Absalom Station) there are two pre-made ships. How do I get those ships (Hippocampus and Sunrise Maiden) from the starships tab into the PC ships tab to allow the PC's to use them like the ship that I created?

As Ulric as stated above, Those can't be dragged and dropped to the PS or to the PC Ship Sheet. Those would have to be made by hand as a PC Ship and then added to the Party Sheet for use in the current system. Those modules were created before the system was in place and will require updating to include PC Ship versions of those ships. I used the Sunrise Maiden exclusively for my testing and that was the process to use it for ship combat and allowing PCs to be assigned as crew. Since this system is still quite new, it will take time for modules and other systems within the ruleset to catch up.

First question:
I'm a little confused...OP says this is now "main code", is that the Live version(my original assumption)? But others in this thread have said you have to be on Test or you have to download Test and then switch back to Live. Can someone clarify for me please?

Second question:
I read through this thread and the official bug thread, so I understand the situation with creating PC ships but how do you add an enemy ship to the combat tracker?

Thanks!

It was on the Test server for a bit and was pushed Live. So if you using the Test or Live version, it should be available for use without any extra steps. Please make sure if you do have the extension to turn it off as it is no longer needed. As for your second question, the Starships were made into the makeshift NPCs for this system. The process is very similar to normal NPCs, you would open the master list of Starships and click and drag the link to the Ship Combat Tracker to have them populate.

I just tried it again, as you can see from my image PCs and NPCs drag over with no issue. But dropping a starship into the CT doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong?

There is a separate starship combat tracker that you can access using the ship button in the upper left of the regular combat tracker screen.

WOW I completely missed that button. Thanks so much!

My humble feedback would be to make that more obvious...I doubt I'll be the last person to miss that as it works differently then any other game system I've had experience with on FG.

Thanks again!

We just had our first session of ship combat using the updated interface. It took a bit of getting used to, but we made it happen! I'm running Against the Aeon Throne, and just had the battle at the end of the first book. Some of the issues we had were involved tracking the shield strength and performing crew actions on the NPC ship the Barazad. Is this going to be improved/coded? Should I plan on creating NPC ships with the editor like when making the PC ship? Thanks!

The Starships are the NPC ships. That will remain as GMs can copy/paste stat block data from books. You can create NPC ships with PC ships if you wish, but that is not the intent. Things can get improved or built out, but this was a foundation and a start point to get ship combat part of the ruleset. We thank you for the feedback and will evaluate it for the future of the system.
