creating new background question

Sorry if this has been asked before I could'nt find any info on it. My question is when creating a new background in 5th edition is, if the background has more than one feature how do I make them choose only one.

There isn't such a choice automatically. I'd suggest that you create two backgrounds each with the appropriate choice; just like the variants in the PHB.

Or have the players just delete the feature they don't want from the abilities tab once the background has been selected.
