Steam licence question

So I want to purchase the ultimate licence, which is listed as DLC on steam. Since there is a trial version to download for free on steam, and the licence says it requires the "game" for the DLC to take affect, do I have to buy the standard licence first before buying the ultimate?

Yes, the Ultimate Upgrade on Steam is a DLC add on for the Standard license on Steam. It’s similar to buying the Standard license on the website; and then buying the Ultimate upgrade after.
