Tonight I noticed some inconsistent behavior with searches on a reference manual... I thought it might just be mine but then I tested the same thing on the 5E DMG.
Here is how to reproduce the issue. Open the reference manual, do NOT toggle open any chapters. Since the DMG only has one chapter (and the rest are sub-chapters) do not click on "D&D Dungeon Masters Guide"

Now type in something you KNOW is in the DMG. In this case I was typing "poison". When I do that I get a empty ref-manual.
Now, close the reference manual, reopen and open up the first chapter.

Again run your search of whatever you picked, I used poison again. This time I got a complete list of entries that the keywords fields had poison in.

I noticed this issue with the AD&D DMG reference manual a little more easily because I use chapters more than the 5E books did. The only way I could get an accurate "search" was to toggle all the chapters "opened" and then search.
