I am having the same problem with the 5e rule set. I’ve tried every combination of server type and sever list and still run into trouble.

Did either of you get errors during your update? I just created a new Private, Local 5E campaign just fine...are you using Public, Cloud, etc.?

JohnD, that looks ruleset specific. I would say 2e is less than fully supported at the moment.

Nor me:

After creating a brand new CoreRPG Campaign, and exiting completely out of FGU, then starting up the Launcher, I now cannot load my Campaign. This is a Local, Private Campaign. It simply comes up "Starting Private Server" with a Cancel Button, and does northing else. Similarly iof I try to staet the 5E Demo Campaign - both Private-Local and Cloud-Public (and the other two combinations.

Inital Notes

The Initial Installer installed the Updater without issue.

The Updater did not "auto launch" when the Installer had finished its run. I had to go and double-click on the Updater exe manually.

The Updater updated itself properly. However, once it finished this task it did not go on to the remaining 23 tasks it said it had to do. Again, I had to go in an manually double-click on the "new" Updater exe.

The Launcher works well, except that it picked up my Internal VirtualBox Hosting IP (never used for gaming, sometimes used for testing), not my Real Internal IP - and there appears to be no way to manually enter my real Internal IP Address.

Other than thast, it looks and works very good - so far :)

Hope this all helps

Cheers

I have completely uninstalled and then re-installed Unity. The current update went smoothy and flawlessly although it took quite some time. I have tried many times to create a brand new campaign using multiple combination of Server Type and List. Nothing seems to work. I continue to get the error that I have previously posted, or it seems to hand at 'Starting cloud server" forever. I intend to proceed with beta testing as intended, but would love to see a campaign load up so I can do so. Is anyone around for suggestions??

I can host game, but am unable to join the game using the same pc or a secondary laptop. It says check network settings. I loaded up FGII and have no problems hosting and joining my own session.
I disabled virus protection, no difference
I am trying stock standard unity as is and the 5e test campaign

Any suggestions

Just a follow-up from post earlier (#10): I had initally placed by FGU-Data Directory under the FGU-Installation directory. For other reasons (not relvenat to this discussion) I subsequently moved my FGU-Data directory to another location (for the record: C:\FGU\Data.

Once I did that, and chaged the relevant settings in the FGU Launcher, my campaigns came back ie I didn't get the "Dreaded Grey Screen Of Death".

Just thought everyone would like to know :)

JohnD, that looks ruleset specific. I would say 2e is less than fully supported at the moment.

It would seem so. Also C&C none of my DLC was downloaded (I have the complete bundle).

Edit- just uninstalled and reinstalled. Same result

I know Doug and the team have their hands full right now and I am trying to exercise patience, but I'd be interested to know if any of the other people who had this error have figured it out a way to resolve it. It seems to be limited in its scope and is something that is happening on my computer and not something wrong with the game. Any ideas would be appreciated.

What I noticed last night was that if I got an error then after that it would hang at the starting grey screen any time I tried to host a campaign. The fix for me was to exit FGU and try again.

John was up late last night trying to fix updater issues (mostly caused by me) and had a migraine this morning. He is coming back online after he gets some lunch. I think the issue is likely something to do with the missing DLL that you have reported.

Thank you Doug, I can imagine you're pretty busy right now.

I just noticed something that may not have anything to do with this problem. The updater doesn't seem to be remembering my password. When I go to the settings screen and hit the login button, it tells me the password is incorrect. I input my password and login and it goes green and says its logged in. I hit save, it takes me to the game, but when I go to settings again the password is wrong again. However, if I hit cancel and then update it looks like everything is working, e.i., all my purchases are there and updated. Don't know if this helps or is irrelevant. I did change my password and fgc will update with the new pw.

Hi there. I can create a new 5E campaign with no issues.

I have same problems.
I installed FGU on Win 7 where it works.
but then I want install on my better PC with i7 and 16GB memory, what I was doing was:

1.) Start installing process on my second i7 PC machine with Windows 10 version (1903 with all updates)
2.) then I recognize I installed it not in directory where I want it was on D:\Programs but it should be D:\Games
3.) So, I uninstalled it after installation. Only what I does was stop 1st updating process (after entering my Key, Name and pwd)
4.) Next I uninstalled FGU from my PC through Control Panel - Add or Remove programs
5.) Next through regedit I deleted all SmiteWorks keys and links on old D:\Programs\FGU
6.) Last step was Installation into correct destination D:\Games
7.) On this new PC I never runs FGU always got same errors as "daggerfortysix" writed here in thread #32
don't know confirm if without reninstallation process will be OK on this my secon PC but on my laptom with Win7 Unity
works well, maybe little slower but no errors.

I try run process with admin rights, copy .dll inside windows catalog, but without success
hope you could soon idendify where the problems is.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. Assuming FGU application, we will need more information. An incorrect link was sent very early on, please make sure you are using the correct link to the installer;
https://www.fantasygrounds.com/filelibrary/FGUWebInstall.exe

If that's not the problem, the KS update has some information about installer issues, please check those; https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/smiteworks/fantasy-grounds-unity/posts/2668076

sorry, I meant the "fix" of installing the "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015, 2017 a 2019" MarianDZ claims in post #44 will fix the issue. I can't install the "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015, 2017 a 2019"; therefore it isn't necessarily the best solution. It might be the only thing that works, but I'd prefer it if a different solution were still investigated.

I can host game, but am unable to join the game using the same pc or a secondary laptop. It says check network settings. I loaded up FGII and have no problems hosting and joining my own session.
I disabled virus protection, no difference
I am trying stock standard unity as is and the 5e test campaign

Any suggestions

My ideas,
- For second instance you need to have 2nd FGU license, with same key it won't work (I think two licenses with same key not working = stealing prevention)
- But if you have second FGU license or another player with his PC then it should work (I not tested it because actually haven't second license for testing purposes)
- Finally if you have two different licenses in your network only problem could be with Firewall. After installing FGU at first run software ask you for permition which allows
program comunicate over "private" and "public" but in most cases checked is only one of them!
In case you are on one type (for example "private") of network type, than your second PC (for example second PC has selected "public" network profile) and you not allows software comunicate in public network, than you need allows it in firewall rules.

Software ask you for permition go through your firewall
29775

How to Check your firewall?
- left down corner click on magnifying glass icon search for "control panel"
- then switch view into "Large icon" (upper right corner of Control Panel window) choose "Windows Defender Firewall" (at the end Firewall)
- in Windows Defender Firewall click on "Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall" from left side panel

29776

- on new oppened window search for "fantasygrounds" if you have installed FGC and FGU than you will see two of them ;o)
see if you have checked for both network types allow checkbox.

29777

Try reboot your main computer on which will be server

hope this could helps you ;o)

Hi "Alyksandrei"
my solution is for new/fresh installed computers on which is this component missing. This is standard software provided by Microsoft for his Microsoft OS extends functionality, and functionality was tested on errors, aftewards was allowed for distribution. I think if your computer gives you some errors with installation of this component than isn't something correct with your system, maybe something is missing or something preventing you do standard operation as instaling into developers software another him producted software is.
Now you have two options reinstaling your computer or try find what is wrong with your system/registry. I can't help you in this because for my tests I need to have your computer, this is non-standard situation.

And maybe you ask why my solution worked others? Thats because they have computer in state as I has, not corrupted, damaged, modified or anyway by software changed their setup.

Why must be this "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015, 2017 a 2019" component installed?
Simply because is needed for correct function of software in enviroments in which was programed and tested. And new Unity enviroment seems uses Visual studio.
Thats reason why this component must be installed, from my noted link or by installation from another software.

If you for example install your new printer than besides printer drivers install in your OS NET framework as condition in which software runs. And without this NET framework software your printer will not run and print pages! From this same reasons developers add in their installation package all other needed software. Only pure driver will not work. Now back to my example if you have installed printer into your computer month or maybe year back. Than you inside your computer actually have NET framework enviroment installed, not need it do again. And thats reason why other players here don't needed install Visual Studio again. Their game works because another program (understand software) add this software in their OS. Problem which I was solved was touched only new installed machines on which isn't present but is important for enviroment (needed). SmiteWorks don't know who has which kind of software installed on machine but need to do one, and Im sure they do. Add installation of this Visual Studio package into their FGU installation package because is needed for proper function. Not rely on another software developers that users has this mandatory condition for enviroment actually installed by them!

As you see now I solved another kind of problems than you have. Hope you understand me now, I can recommend you do clean installation, then install Visual studio then your FGU will works Im sure.

Clearly, then, this is not a true "fix", as it is not guaranteed to work for everyone. If the extra thing cannot be installed on all machines, then the original problem stands: the software cannot find the dll, and thus cannot run.

I've had this laptop for a long time, so there's a lot of data on it that I refuse to wipe just to get a clean install of Windows so your solution will work. I need a different solution. I suggest that next time you find that a third-party installation solves a problem with a program you're helping to test, you do not request the devs to mark the issue as "solved", because your solution may not work for everyone. You haven't solved the problem, you've found a workaround.

.DLL is just library which for function need correct enviroment as you know. And when your machine haven't meet conditions for utilising this .DLL than it is just file on your harddisk. You have broken enviroment or better sayied not meeted conditions for running this kind of software.

3Dfx.dll is just .DLL library without installed DirectX, your game won't run and doesnt matter if you have DLL copied in your OS simply system couldn't utilise it without instaled proper enviroment.

FGU installer created for you DLL file as was intented but missing or broken enviroment of your machine seems doesn't allow you run software and as you confirmed your computer throws you error during installation proces of Visual Studio what isn't really obvious behavior. Other users seems haven't this kind of experiences with installation.

In error writes nothing about missing dll it writes something different, from this I knows what to do, this really isn't workaround this was gived what system required, for what asks.

Thanks for reporting. I've added as FGU-725. My guess is that rulesets which the player does not have locally installed are not being cached correctly, or not being read from cache correctly.

Can you send me the console.log file from the FGU data directory after that happens? It will keep more information in the log; and those screenshots only show to errors for the client not being able to return to launcher correctly which is a separate item.

Thanks. It looks like it's not reporting any error in the log, just attempting to exit to launcher.

Are you attempting a connection from a different machine; or from a second instance on the same machine?

It seem to happen only if the host and player don't have the same modules.
I was trying to join an open server. The free modules seems ok, the icons are there and the modules load ok.
A moment ago i've created a 5e room as a host and the free modules open perfectly in my friend's computer.
But when i try to download a module that i DON'T have, from 5e, PFRPG2 or SFRPG the aplication crashes... same happens as host (when a friend tries to load a module that he hasn't).
Now i'm trying to host a PFRPG2

Thanks. It looks like it's not reporting any error in the log, just attempting to exit to launcher.

Are you attempting a connection from a different machine; or from a second instance on the same machine?

JPG

I'll start a new post... it's a different bug that is happening with 2 friends of mine also.

Won't install - gives an "unknown error". An additional solution may be required.

Does install but that seemed not to be the resolve for me

@Razjel,

Can you open the console log using the button in upper left of launcher screen before launching/joining game, click the Compile Logs button, and provide the file?

You're using Windows 7, that's not a supported operating system for FGU.

The error you have is related to Microsoft files, but MS may not be supplying the version FGU requires in Windows 7 as MS no longer support Windows 7. You could try looking for the most recent Visual C++ Redistributable (or maybe even an older one), but Ultimately you're running on a platform that isn't support for FGU and is no longer supported by Microsoft.
